This customer of mine built his own home from scratch. I was impressed with his commitment. I stamped all of his drawings with a few modifications, but he used the ICF foundation for his home (insulated concrete forms). They are fascinating and make formwork a whole lot easier. Right now, even though the local City Hall and other government organizations might be in shutdown, don't let that stop your imagination. Do you want to remove a wall for a more open concept, or another home project that requires a permit? Well, start drafting it up. The city will accept a residential owner's drawings, as long as they're to scale and have all necessary dimensions and labels. A fun challenge to take on.
