Na Quinta-feira passada a nossa sala de Bingo sofreu uma tentativa de assalto á mão armada. Uma mulher e um adoloscente entraram nas nossas instalaçoes , dirigi...ram-se á venda dos bilhetes, a mulher mandou um spray desconhecido há cara da Zita, aproveitando a confusão para pegar na caixa do dinheiro e tentarem fugir. A rápida reação da Zita e a intervenção dos presentes conseguiram fazer com que a caixa do dinheiro caísse, os utentes seguraram o adolescente até á chegada da polícia. A mulher conseguiu fugir mas acabou por se entregar hoje. Ambos vão ser acusados de vários crimes inclusive assalto há mão armada pois tinham em seu poder uma pistola. Os jogadores foram alertados pelos gritos da Zita ao que rápidamente acorreram á porta para ajudarem e tentar capturar os ladrões, também graças a eles foi recuperado todo o dinheiro. A eles o nosso sincero obrigado pois demonstra o bom ambiente e camaradagem que existe entre os jogadores e os voluntários da nossa casa. Um obrigado á polícia pela rápida e eficaz intervenção e a todos que hoje nos contactaram e manifestaram a sua preocupação. On Thursday evening, October 31st, APM suffered an attempted armed robbery. An adult female and male youth entered the building during bingo. In an attempt to take the cash tray at the door, they approached the ticket counter, and sprayed an unknown substance at our Executive Director, Zita Lopes. Thanks to Zita's quick reaction and the intervention of those present, the cash tray was dropped to the floor and the male youth was restrained by patrons until police arrived. The woman managed to escape but eventually surrendered later that evening. Both have been charged with various offences including armed robbery as weapons were also seized. Bingo players reacted quickly to Zita’s pleads for help. Many rushed to the door in an attempt to help where they could as well as capture the thieves. Our patrons aided in recovering all monies. Our sincere thanks to all of you for your contribution to the wonderful atmosphere and camaraderie that exists between our patrons and the volunteers of APM. Thank you as well to the Winnipeg Police for their prompt and effective intervention and to everyone who has contacted the APM and expressed their concern. We are very grateful that no injuries were sustained.
