Hospital to Celebrate 107 Year Anniversary On Feb. 2nd, 2021, Rosetown Hospital will have had a municipal hospital for 107 years. The first hospital (pictured below) was formally opened on Feb 2, 1914 and had three floors with a 21-bed capacity. C.E. Conlin was the first chairman of the board. The first matron was Miss Elmhurst and the first baby born in the hospital was Graham Staples. In 1915 a nurses’ residence to accommodate eight people was added and a twelve-room add...ition to this was built in 1918. Most of the staff lived in residence. An addition to the hospital was finished in 1928 and served the community until 1964 when it was demolished after the present building was erected. From 1911-1913 the community was served by a private hospital built and operated by Dr. E.T. Myers. Palliative Care Renovations In 1994 two rooms at the Rosetown Hospital were renovated to be used for Palliative Care with the goal of providing a homey, comfortable space where the families of terminally ill patients could be accommodated to stay at the hospital with the patient in their last days. All planning and funding for the initial project was provided by Alex Ositis Foundation. In 2006 a third room was renovated and equipped by the Foundation as a Special Needs roo...m. After 25 years of use, all three rooms were in serious need of renovations and upgrading to make them cozier and more comfortable. The Foundation began a project to replace flooring, cabinets, cabinet beds for family staying overnight, blinds and curtains, wall refinishing and numerous other items. The Rosetown & District Health Centre Foundation had some funds in a palliative care reserve and they offered these funds as well as enough to cover half of the project. The renovations are now complete with the final cost at just over $52,000. Our share was provided by donations held in reserve for palliative care and from our fundraising projects. Donations toward this project are still needed and will be gratefully accepted. Photos of the newly renovated space are posted below.

We can help Andrea and the thousands of patients, families and health care workers that are in the middle of this storm. Please keep your bubble small, observe physical distancing, stay home when you can and especia...lly when you don’t feel well, wash your hands frequently, wear a mask whenever you are in public indoor settings, and follow all public health orders. Thank you for helping to keep us all safe as we fight the storm. See more
