Hello Folks: A question I receive from time to time deals with why people would want to live in this part of Annapolis County, that is, in District 6. I would like to outline how i respond. In my view, this part of Annapolis County has many advantages: the deliberate pace that gives a great quality of life, the water and inland vistas are enjoyable and invigorating and the citizens are welcoming, polite, accommodating, and very proud of being residents. Over the past few yea...rs, we have experienced many positive happenings that individually and collectively serve to make our way of life more enjoyable and add to our positive health and well-being. Please let me state some reasons that should convince you to come and live among us. Population is increasing. It is evident that our population numbers are growing. The number of young children is also growing - all adding to a very desirable population mix. Business is thriving. Beginning with the motel and new storage spaces at Alains Brook, the rejuvenated Fort View Golf Course, the refurbished Founders Dining Room, and the chalets being built next to the golf course, as part of a multi-year real estate development. A new, speedier, much speedier, internet service is being constructed, ZURI Inc is expanding its cannabis business and will be hiring 150 staff over the coming months in addition to constructing 25 or so houses. Our elementary school is thriving, Frank and Dora's seasonal eating establishment has just had a banner year, and the new Gordonstoun school project is making positive and substantial progress. Our centers of community activity: Upper Clements hall, Clementsport Legion, Cornwallis Park Community Association, Deep Brook Flea market, and Lions' Club hall are now increasing their post-COVID events, and are attracting larger numbers of participants while sticking to COVID requirements. A community committee has begun its work of determining how to make Veterans' Memorial Park more attractive. A much needed and long-awaited Highway 1 flashing crosswalk light has been installed in Cornwallis Park. I could go on and on. Of course there are some areas that continue to need attention: ensuring that the FUNDY YMCA pool is restored, how to deal with the enormous quantity of roadside litter we see every day on our roads and streets, and how to ensure that our businesses project a positive experience. In addition, I as Councillor will continue to advance, in the strongest possible manner, the wishes and desires of District 6 residents. I hope you will agree with me that we live in "a good place". FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Oct 8, 2020 Annapolis County Pilot Internet Project Kick-Off An exciting new pilot project between Seaside Communications and the Municipality of the County of Annapolis is bringing reliable, high speed internet to Annapolis County. The Annapolis County Pilot Internet Project is an agreement between Seaside C...ommunications and the Municipality of the County of Annapolis, which will see an initial 10 residential households supplied with internet service at gigabit speeds, allowing for ample connectivity for everyone in their household with all of their devices. This pilot project, already under way, is the first to bring such blazing speeds to the area. The 10 households selected reflect a representative group of Annapolis area homes requiring internet service. With the installation of internet modems and wireless routers, these initial participants are able to use Wi-Fi throughout their homes while providing necessary feedback through the end of the year, when additional customer installation bookings are set to begin. The actual fibre construction will now result in a savings of approximately $3 million, keeping this important project on time and on budget for the benefit of all the residents and taxpayers of Annapolis County, said Timothy Habinski, municipal warden. Having access to this internet service gives us the ability to do so many more things directly from home. says area resident Ashley Clements, who with her fiancé and two children, owns two properties that include a wood mill and a chicken farm. Especially with COVID-19 restrictions upon us, having the internet to help with school learning, perform daily tasks such as online banking, and even the ability to access farm-related technology, is important to us. Residents of Annapolis County can find more information about the Municipality of the County of Annapolis Internet Initiative by visiting www.seaside.ns.ca/annapolis or by calling 1-888-235-0092.
