Aleza Lake Research Forest 24.01.2021

In July and August 2020, we were busy upgrading and refurbishing 6 kilometres of older tributary roads at the ALRF, mainly on the West Branch and Nursery Roads. Many of these roads - which form part of our approx. 40 km permanent road network - were originally built back in the late 1950's and early 1960's! This year, we replaced 10 old culverts and completed extensive right-of-way brushing, ditching, and improved road drainage. Road works were funded directly by the Aleza Lake Research Forest Society, re-investing in our forest road network and public access to these areas. Work on the Nursery Road will continue in 2021/22.

Kudos, farewell, and best wishes to our good friend, most excellent Aleza RF forest projects supervisor, and fellow explorer of 8-foot-tall Devils Club thickets, Sam Gonzalez, who departs the Aleza Lake Research Forest after 6 years with us. Sam is putting down new roots in forestry in northwest BC, and a new home with Nick in Smithers. All the best, Sam, in your new adventures!
