You’re engaged! First things first! Congratulations!! So now the fun part, wedding planning! ... 1. You'll want to set a timeline, or your ideal time for your wedding. Don’t get too specific for now, but narrowing down the year and season (ie. 2 years time in Fall 2023) will help you in your search for vendors. 2 - Set a budget. Decide what you’re comfortable spending up front so when you can start breaking down costs and searching for vendors who align with that price range (such as venues, caterers, photographers etc.) 3 - Piece together you and your fiance’s wedding vision and determine your priorities. Do you want something big & lavish, or something small & intimate? Is delicious food an important aspect, or the ambience of the party? 4 - Make your guest list. After you decide how much you’re willing to spend, that’s when you can determine how large or modest of a guest list you can accommodate and start to narrow down venue options based on that number. 5 - Decide who will be in your wedding party, and let them know! You’ll probably want their help when it comes time to do venue walkthroughs and deciding on your wedding day attire! 6 - Start looking for a venue! This is the hurdle you probably want to start with because it determines when your actual wedding date will be, as well as many other factors including outside bar and catering etc. Try not to get too overwhelmed right away, and take it step-by-step. Not seeing your spouse-to-be before the wedding is a time-honored superstition, but some couples are ditching the tradition in favor of a "staged" pre-ceremony first look. Usually, it's just you two plus your photographer to capture some beautiful photos of this once-in-a-lifetime moment. Not only does it give you something perfect to look back on, but a first look is a sweet, private moment with just the two of you before a long day celebrating with loved ones. 2020 challenged us, but it also taught us to look for the light when there seemingly is none and embrace it. As I look at 2020 in the rearview here are some of the positives that I’m taking with me as the clock slips from 11:59 pm into a brand new year: - I was able to carry some of the burden from couples having to postpone their wedding (some more than once!) to a future date so they wouldn’t have to do it alone. ... - I helped re-plan canceled destination weddings - I executed MANY brides visions with less than a month to plan, making sure even elaborate dreams came true - I was surrounded by optimism & patience alongside couples adapting to new changes such as smaller guest counts, physical distancing & mandatory masks - I challenged myself in my role as a wedding planner to get creative in making weddings both stunning and safe (trust me, I can measure out 6ft in my sleep now!) - I saw love so strong couples decided to marry privately in 2020 to be joined at a later time by friends and family - I watched tears of frustration turn into tears of joy as couples overcame every obstacle to still marry their best friend - I helped over 30 couples promise forever even amongst the unknown in 2020 All of the couples that moved forward with grace to find the light in their special day, and make their 2020 wedding safe and special, I commend you. All of the couples looking forward to 2021/2022, your day will come and I will help make sure it was worth the wait. The biggest lesson I’m walking away from 2020 with is to cherish even the small moments with people we love the most. Life doesn’t always go as planned, but it’s easier to navigate with loved ones at your side. Love is not canceled. Love will win.
