AlgomaTrad is well into its free online 6-week program featuring 10 artists and 14 classes per week, with nearly 140 participants! Thank you to Canadian Red Cross, Canadian Red Cross COVID-19 Emergency Support for Community Organizations Granting Program, funded by the Government of Canada’s Emergency Community Support Fund led by Employment and Social Development Canada for making this program possible.

A big shout out to TD MusiCounts for funding to purchase new instruments for AlgomaTrad’s programming. Many instruments are coming from Bravura House, Long and McQuade, plus hand crafted custom marimbas (in progress) from TreeHouse Guitars. Looking forward to getting instruments into learners’ hands.

Our dear friend James Stephens posted this lovely message. Thank you James. Here's a picture of James with Brian Pickell when the Brian Pickell band was in Yellowknife: "One of the great pleasures of my life has been my involvement with the Algoma Trad annual summer family camp and being part of the wonderful community that is created there. Today I am asking that all of you consider a donation to the Algoma Trad campaign to build a year round centre for traditional arts and culture in Northern Ontario. My dear friends and fellow musicians Julie Schryer and Pat O’Gorman are hoping to raise $300K in order to leverage much more substantial funding from government granting agencies. This is a very worthwhile project run by really good people with a great vision. Every dollar will help them reach their goal." https://youtu.be/_oxo6P5Wp74

AlgomaTrad’s first annual Lantern Walk Share a Little Light was small, short, and sweet (and following COVID safety guidelines). So wonderful to see families out for this event. Light, darkness, a bit of music, some hot cider were shared and celebrated, and each group composed Haiku’s inspired by the evening’s experience. Thank you to all who attended, great to feel community!
