We all need good news right now...and this is exactly that! We are so #AlgonquinProud of our very own Mrs.Loffredo and her creativity in tough times to bring the world into her classroom when exploring outside of the school walls cannot happen. What a brilliant partnership and we are so lucky to have been a part of this learning opportunity. Lakehead Public Schools

Tomorrow is Pink Shirt Day in support of Anti-bullying measures. This Pink Shirt Day we want to focus on supporting each other, working together and treating others with respect. This year has been tough for so many reasons, but one thing we have learned along the way is that COVID-19 cannot take away kindness. It has shown us that when times get tough, we can come together to help others. Help us lift each other up tomorrow and wear as much pink as possible! #AlgonquinProud

The grade 4/5s have joined in on a few virtual tours of the AGO in Toronto and been able to explore some of the work from a variety of Canadian Artists. All the pieces we have explored have encouraged us to look within ourselves and highlight the connections and relationships we have with ourselves, others, animals, the environment and the world in general. It is remarkable how although given the same task, how each students interprets and shares themselves through their art in different ways. I am so proud of these kids for allowing themselves to open their hearts and their minds to what they are experiencing and the world around them and share it with others. #AGOschools covid means we can’t host our own exhibit but we can certainly bring the exhibit to you virtually. Thanks for enjoying our art.

Please pause the video and read some of the stunning poems created by the very talented grade 4/5 Gladiator authors. We spent some time this week exploring texts with a Remembrance Day theme and used some of our understanding of the words and styles of what we were reading to create poems. We used our five senses to describe peace and used a found poetry activity to choose good words to explore in our writing. We will remember.

Even though Treaty Recognition Week is coming to an end, we know that this is only the beginning of a beautiful journey we are embarking on. The first week of November (November 2nd - 6th, 2020) is Treaties Recognition Week. This annual recognition honours the importance of treaties, treaty rights and relationships. Treaties Recognition Week responds to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action to increase treaty awareness. Our Gladiators worked hard to learn... about Treaties, understand what they represent and what they stand for. Our Primary classes worked collectively to create a Treaty for their classes. The discussion was rich and it was amazing to hear our youngest students sharing their understanding of the History behind Treaties. We are going to continue to share our learning with our families and community in honor of this path to reconciliation. #callstoaction #proudtobeagladiator Lakehead Public Schools See more
