Happy winter solstice AND conjunction day! Today on 12/21/2020 Saturn and Jupiter line up in the sky to visibly create one star! As today will be cloudy and snowing I decided to head out to the Big Rock Erratic outside of Okotoks last night to capture it just before they align. Even though it’s just a couple of dots in this image, I have to say that being able to visibly see the two planets so close together with the naked eye was wondrous to behold. There were many peop...le in the parking lot with binoculars and telescopes. There is something very magical about the night sky, and something very wonderful about standing in the dark connecting with it. I had to laugh out loud with my husband when I realized that I was standing in the cold windy darkness aiming my camera at two tiny dots and feeling so much joy just the same. It’s a bit of a different vibe this Halloween, so I really appreciated getting in the spirit of things by shooting this pumpkin carving event last week at @railyardbrewingyyc !
