Today I had to say goodbye to this brood, and I am gutted. I think it’s wrong to legislate against being able to have a piece of sustainable living on your residential property. My children were inspired at the start of all these lockdowns In March to learn about raising chickens, how to help with egg production and inevitably we became attached to Winnie, Blue, Mother, May and Bella. These living creatures helped us homeschool during many months of isolated parenting and wi...th one anonymous complaint- much time, money, energy and love has to be shut down. They were quiet and not visible to the road. They didn’t poo in your yard like many cats and dogs do around here- and we deal with it- live with it. They were our little pandemic farm- and now they are gone. I am so sad and feel unsupported by my community to move towards key principals in food security and sustainable living and it just doesn’t make sense for a town who claims to be moving in an environmentally sustainable direction. We are sandwiched between two municipalities who permit backyard chickens. It’s time to get with the times Ladysmith! Once I get over this sadness we’ll be working as a family to write to the city with our concerns and our story. Shouldn’t we support food security and local food production during a pandemic? And always? It’s time to move beyond the antiquated concerns and towards fostering relationship with home, land, community and nourishment. I am going to go have a big cry now. Put my heart into those birds. No one to hand chop scraps for anymore. Bye bye birdies. I feel a loss of life we were working hard to put into our little plot of land on a hill during these very challenging times. #backyardchickens #ladysmithbc #allowbackyardchickens #foodsecurity #sustainableliving #greencities #takeastand See more

I have no words other than the indebted gratitude for the experience of breathing here- witness and recognizing in full experience that without attachment there is nothing more that #theunbearablelightnessofbeing and how I weep for all I’ve ever cling to. In these times and days. And how I forgive my clinging with a wide open heart. It’s all I’ve ever really learned - is to come back to that. That’s all there is. #soul #moon #self #here

This morning I was inundated with a whole new line of elf on the self masks (we don’t have an elf of the shelf)- but there is one in my daughter’s classroom. Items even had names like, ‘starry night’. Takes my breath away how adaptable children can be to restrictions and by nature spin yarn into gold. But this doesn’t mean I have to succumb to the elf on the self does it? (She’s made her own one of those too!). #maskart #loveinthetimeofcorona #elfontheshelf #isolationcreation #yogaislife #findthelight #findthejoy #findthebeauty #kidsareawesome

#covidchristmas Heartwarming, heartbreaking to discover that your 6 year old daughter has been busy for hours making the tiniest, sweetest, most lovingly crafted miniature face masks for her classroom elf on the shelf. #loveinthetimeofcovid19 #yogaislove #kidsartist #facemask #elfontheshelf #elfontheshelf2020

Getting excited to launch and share Mindful Practise through Mindful Expression- an Artstarts grant funded project supporting online content for teachers and students. An actors’ job is to become finely attuned to their senses and the world around them. In this creative challenge students will be given the opportunity to develop a daily creative practise focused on mindful movement and character exploration in a series of 35 video prompts and exercises. What can be learned by... treating our bodies like instruments and practising great attentiveness to our senses, and the world around us? What can we learn about ourselves through the study of others? Wish I could be in the classroom but pivoting to offer students joy, expression, exploration and awareness in these restrictive Covid days brings me a great sense of purpose. #onlineclassroom #onlineclassesforkids #mindfulnessinschools #theatreineducation #yogainspiration #pivot See more
