Should I get a massage when I’m sick? Your appointment is scheduled and you have been looking forward to your massage for the last few days, but you wake up with sinus pain, congestion and runny nose, fatigue, headache, and possibly chills, fever and cough. Do you go to your appointment thinking that a great massage will help you detoxify and push this cold out? While massage therapy is comforting when you are feeling miserable and will ease some achy joints and muscles, you... aren’t doing yourself or your therapist any favors. In the acute stages of a cold or flu a massage will only intensify your symptoms, and because your immune system is in a compromised state, you are vulnerable to other infections. You will also be uncomfortable and congested lying face down with a dripping nose and annoying cough. Your therapist’s treatment space is small, and she is exposed to your cold or flu virus for 60 or more minutes. This puts your RMT at risk, not to mention other clients coming to treatment after you. If your therapist then gets sick and has to miss work and cancel appointments, she loses income and inconveniences others. Please stay home, sleep, rest, hydrate, have a bath soak. Your therapist will understand your need to reschedule, and if she is like me, will do her best to fit you in as soon as possible to tend to those post sickness aches and pains. Let’s work together and do all we can to minimize the effects of this cold and flu season.

You know what they say - you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone. Make sure that what's gone isn't your health or wellbeing! Incorporating massage into yo...ur health and wellness plan is a great way to prevent and treat injuries, pain and pre-existing conditions. Plus, it carves out an hour for you to focus on yourself, which also has many benefits! See more

It's so important to take the time to take care of ourselves - even when it seems like there's only time for EVERYTHING else! Keeping your body in check instead... of letting issues build up and compound can save you a lot of time and pain in the long run. Make regular Massage Therapy a vital part of your relaxation plan!
