We thought you might like to know that they changed our name :) We used to be Comox Valley Care and Companions Club
I wish you could have seen the epic fun we had in the rain today. Youth were so engaged it was magical. Each youth has their own unique way to be in the game,... they find their calling, they develop communication strategies, and tackle problems together. In just a few short weeks their willingness to be there for each other, all efforts focusing on a common cause, and having compassion in the process of the excitement and drama is incredible to witness. Shelter building, herb identification for the much-needed potion, and crafting a tripod to make a decoction, done. I wonder what next week will bring!? See more
Heya! Will you help us spread the word? We have had such an incredible time with the youth so far, and we are opening the doors to just a few more. Thank you so much!!

Re-integrating our Youth., Preventing Disintegration. According to Sam Himelstein, Ph.D., a licensed psychologist (link below), "When someone becomes traumatized, one of the key attributes that arrises are disintegration, which means that they become fragmented in their mind, and they are unable to integrate the experience into their lives, causing children to become "traumatized." This is what causes the problems when they think about the memory from the past, this is what h...appens, it sometimes becomes difficult to remember what happened, the memories can become fragmented at times. Other times, when they remember the details of the experience they have been through, it's their central nervous system that becomes disintegrated they become hyper-aroused or hypo-aroused and it's very difficult for them to manage themselves or practice self-regulation. This generates a sort of chaos. Assessing danger when there's no danger there, or not noticing danger when there is danger there, or making you go into fight, flight or freeze, due to abuse, community violence, etc. The key signifier is the disintegration." Wild Craft Play 'sCool was built to restore the resilience in children through preventative play. Now more than ever our youth need practice building these coping mechanisms to be able to integrate what is happening so that COVID does not because of a cause for traumatization." .................................... I, Jamie Black (founder of Wild Craft Play 'sCool) came to understand trauma-informed care in 2004 when I was taking a course in Trauma-informed care. I used to work with youth "at-risk" who modeled traumatic reactions and needed a lot of care, support, and tools to cope with life. I was working at a government-funded program called the Young Adults Working program, helping youth between the ages of 15 and 30 to become employable again. After 3 years in this hands-on, in-depth learning experience, I decided that I wanted to help children develop coping mechanisms to build resilience from hardships and hard experiences. The inability to deal with traumatic experiences is only one of the many life-skills our children need to learn. Youth develop the meaning that they make in any given "hard experience," don't you wish for your child the capacity to overcome hard experiences and thrive from the lessons, rather than being trapped in a world of traumatization? I'm not a runner, but what I know is that ANYTHING that raises money for the Cumberland Community Forest Society is well worth the effort. Ok all you runner-crazy people I know... who's in?
Tomorrow is the last day to register for The Game! It's at Cumberland Village Park (pre-registration is required). Who do you know that's looking for a little imaginative fun in the forest? It's like Capture the Flag but way more epic (they say).... Register here: www.wildcraftplay.com/contact-us
