Real talk from @the.yogini.nancy Posted @withregram @the.yogini.nancy Let's talk about discrimination in the yoga industry, because unless you are willfully blind you have seen the lack of inclusion and diversity. With the Black Live Matter movement, yoga studios and teachers are reaching out to me to see how they can be more inclusive.... So, let's have real and honest conversations about what has not been done and what will be done going forward to make the yoga industry more inclusive and fair. Posting apologies, lists of books you are reading, and things you are doing to educate yourself about race is performative and ,from my perspective, only soothes your white guilt by giving you a false sense of participating in the solution. Although it is a start, it does not trickle down to systemic change. I don't have the patience or the energy to make you feel better when you systematically pay me 20$ less then my white counterparts. That's if you decide to "take a chance" on me because I was not trained at your Yoga Teacher Training, even though I have 7 yoga teacher trainings under my belt. I recently looked at the social media page of a studio where I taught several classes and saw no pictures of BIPOC people although I was teaching over 4 corporate and workshop classes for them. I am not pointing fingers, I am stating a fact. How were they helping promote my classes and increase attendance? What messages was that oversight sending? These training, hiring, marketing, and paying policies perpetuate discrimination. You say you want to do better, than actually do better: Train and hire BIPOC people. Put us on your marketing materials and pay us what we are worth. When you know better, you do better.
