It's very important, especially around this time of year with spring flowers, to ensure your household is LILY FREE! Lilies are extremely toxic to cats, even to smallest amount of the pollen and even the water that the flowers have been sitting in. ALL types of lilies are toxic to your kitty and can cause irreversible kidney damage and will be fatal if not treated within hours at an emergency hospital! Be careful when buying bouquets this season and ensure there aren't any lilies in the mix. If a friend or family member gifts any to you, pass them along to a friend who does not have kitties in their home

Hypertension (high blood pressure) is a well recognized disorder in cats that can be caught early on during routine wellness exams. Our team always recommends checking your kitties blood pressure once yearly at their check-up! Early detection of hypertension can help to prevent critical damage to the organs, such as heart, kidneys, brain and eyes. Hypertension can be primary (there is no other known disease they have) or secondary to another disease such as hyperthyroidism, heart disease or kidney disease. Getting their BP done is very similar to how we have ours checked, just with a much smaller cuff A ultrasonic doppler is used to detect the heartrate and also determine the systolic blood pressure of your cat.

Finley was a purrrfect patient this weekend for his second Junior Wellness appointment with Dr. Jay! This little "arctic fox" just recently found his forever home and is doing great! He has now received all of his kitten vaccines and deworming. He is scheduled to be seeing us again soon for his neuter and we will also be doing a Feline Leukemia/FIV (Feline AIDS) snap test at that time to ensure he doesn't have either of these harmful diseases. So far, he has been an adora...ble new friend to AAC and was showing off his cool carrier while also enjoying his cat nip treat for being such a good boy! #petwellness #catlovers See more

The All About Cats team wants to introduce a very lovely shy but brave boy who came in for his annual Adult Wellness exam and vaccine boosters. He is a timid little man who originally came from a farm but now lives with his forever family and brother, Cheddar We were amazed by his very cool patterns and markings, as a domestic shorthair tabby. Rusty is 18 months old and overall checked out well for his wellness but Dr. Liz did hear a heart murmur. This is something that i...s sometimes found in kitties and is most cases is benign, but can also be an indicator of an underlying heart disease. To be sure, Rusty will be returning in December for a cardiac ultrasound to find out exactly what is going on! We were so happy to see you today Rusty! Hope you have a nice weekend Good job being so brave for your visit!

In honour of our Senior Focus month, our team would like to introduce a senior spotlight- Spritzer who is 20 years old and 7 months!! Spritzer is a handsome, loving and sensitive man who has been coming to All About Cats for many years. His cat mom loves him dearly and gives him incredible medical care and love that keeps him living a comforted and happy life. Spritzer unfortunately lost his dear brother, Soda this past February and misses his buddy very muchHowever, he... also enjoys the extra attention he gets from his mom Spritzer requires daily medication to manage his renal insufficiency that comes with old age, high blood pressure, pancreatitis and hyperthyroidism. Fortunately, these medications have made a world of difference in his life and he continues to be a little warrior We love you Spritzer!!

All About Cats is celebrating our Senior focus this fall! We love our senior kitties very much and many of our team members have some of their own As cats get older, it is important to maintain regular visits with your veterinarian- we recommend annually for kitties aged 7-13 years and bi-annually for those who are 13+ years old. We consider them Super Seniors Routine exams, bloodwork, urinalysis, blood pressure and intraocular pressure checks are all part of ensuring yo...ur kitty is healthy! Some common things we find as they age are similar in humans- high blood pressure, arthritis, heart disease, dental disease and hyperthyroidism. Fortunately, all of these things can be treated and managed to help keep your kitty happy and comfortable! Other important things to check are their nails, and ensuring they are being trimmed regularly. As cats age, they tend to scratch less and nails get thicker. This can lead to ingrown nails and can be very painful! Call the clinic today if you have questions about your senior kitty and please share photos of them below!
