Just to update people on these "murder hornets". They have been spotted on the west coast. They are a potentially serious threat to the honeybee industry but not so much of a threat to humans. We have had European wasps in Canada and in our area for years now. The European wasp is actually larger than the Asian hornet although almost impossible to tell the difference to the untrained eye. I catch dozens of the European wasps in my wasp traps each fall.
