Hey Y’all, By now, I’m sure you are all aware of the Mandatory Mask Policy that goes into effect tomorrow, Friday, July 24th, 2020. Some of you may be wondering Why now? Why four months in, when we have no active cases in the city? Well, I think that your answer is right there in the question. Our community has done a wonderful job of following the advice of health experts and flattening the curve. And as our community opens up and cooler weather approaches, it is just as i...mportant now to stay the course and, hopefully, avoid back tracking on all the hard work we’ve done so far. Many of you have already taken the step of wearing a mask or face covering in public prior to the TBDHU mandate, and that’s awesome! Wearing a mask is often unpleasant. Your commitment shows that you’re not only thinking of your own health, but are aware of the health of others around you. But, there are many valid reasons for which someone may not wear a face covering, not all of them for medical reasons, and not all of them visible. The TBDHU has listed a number of exemptions to this policy. Those, as well as answers to many questions surrounding this mandate, are listed on a Mandatory Mask FAQ page on the Health Unit website. We strongly encourage everyone to check it out (see below). So, when we go out in public tomorrow, it may not appear too different from today; you may see some people wearing masks and others not. In our store, you will notice mandatory mask signs at the entrance/exit and we will have hand sanitizer available so you can safely put on your mask. Staff will wear masks in the public areas of the building, however, Staff are not required and therefore, may choose not to wear a mask behind the safety shield. Upon entering our store without a mask, or upon removal of your mask for an extended period, Staff may provide a reminder to the policy. We, and the TBDHU, recognize the privacy and rights of those unable to wear a mask. Staff will NOT ask or require proof of an exemption. As with every recommended precaution, we recognize that it will take time to adjust. To wear a mask in public or not seems to be a more polarizing subject. The most important thing to remember when interacting with others is respect. A very inspiring person we know shared this thought on social media You are either a kind person, or you aren't. A piece of cloth does not determine that trait. We are happy to continue navigating these uncertain times with you and thank you for all your support! Be safe, be kind and be well!
