Alley Theatre- Vancouver 11.01.2021

Dear community, We hope that you are staying safe and enjoying what you can of the season during this time. Thank you so much to those of you who joined us online for the reading of Lili Robinson's "Mx" last week. We were so honored to support and showcase Lili and their team and, thanks to many of you, we ended up raising over $1000 for WISH Drop-In Centre Society! We're now inviting you to another online event ... Now, more than ever, it feels important for us to connect f...ace-to-face with our audience (even if it's online). So it would be really nice to see you over zoom and share a bit of where we're at. Community attendance at Annual General Meetings also helps us with our annual application to the BC Gaming Grant branch, so we would appreciate your support in that regard. The event will include: - Artistic and Financial reports - Details on upcoming projects in development - Election of our board of directors (we actively welcome self-nominations to the Board!) - an overview of our inter-community engagement framework - Q & A with the Artistic Producers ALS interpretation will be provided by Gillian Pettitt and Lily Flanjak. Here's a sneak peak of CHEEN (Cherine Amr) performing (Ana Haweit) by (Sayed Darwish), for Judith Fair: an outdoor variety night. (Psst! Tickets are going real fast for our outdoor socially distant performance on Sept. 12/13. We're technically sold out for the 13th but there are still tickets left to the 12th, and we're looking at a safe way to add more seats to the 13th (max of 50pp of course!) Get yours now to get in on the fun. Tickets: https://tickets.v...ancouverfringe.com) In the journey of accepting and exploring her gender fluidity, CHEEN reflects on cultures, politics, and social constructs in defining gender identities. CHEEN will give an interactive live music performance that presents songs of her own and songs of Mounira El Mahdeya in Egyptian Arabic (lyrics' translation will be provided for the audience). The performance endeavours to reject the pan-Arabism notion while challenging the audiences' perspectives of gender constructs, language, and identities. CHEEN is an Egyptian guitarist, singer and songwriter. She was born in Alexandria, Egypt and started singing at the age of 6. When she was 18, she got interested in rock and metal music which motivated her to learn the guitar. At the age of 19, she started writing her own songs and formed the first female metal band in Egypt, Massive Scar Era. #judithfair #socialdistanceperformance

Coming to #JudithFair? You'll get to experience the music & poetry of the award-winning Alex Masse. Alex Masse is a writer and musician from BC. For Judith Fair she will combine these two precious mediums through a poetry reading with musical accompaniment on her Suzuki Qchord, a vintage guitar synth with a distinct, dreamy sound. Alex's poetry and prose each received a Scholastic Gold Key in 2018, and she's been performing in the local arts scene since 2012, this year featu...ring in multiple local festivals. Alex is a neurodivergent lesbian, and finds this greatly affects her work. When not creating, she's probably reading or thrifting. Tix for Judith Fair go on sale Sept 1!
