Hard to believe it was six years today since that horrific attack on Parliament Hill. I was seated in the Conservative Caucus room shortly after 10 am when I h...eard a series of what sounded like firecrackers which were actually a barrage of gunshots that seemed to be coming from the Great Hall. We began stacking chairs in front of all doors to form a secure barricade for protection. Little did we know at that time a madman had taken the life of Corporal Nathan Cirillo at Ottawa's War Memorial then ran over to Centre Block seeking to kill Parliamentarians. Two days earlier Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent was killed in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. That day which was the exact day of the year my dad passed away 13 years previous is a day that I shall never forget and was most fortunate to remain alive. I will be forever grateful to Parliament Hill's Security and Law Enforcement Officers for their bravery. To this day, I think and pray for the young son of Corporal Cirillo who lost his father in such a senseless attack. May both heroic Canadians rest in peace. See more
