A casing and a steam chest are taken straight from the mould after cooling and placed inside a rotary shot blast machine. In the next stage, the castings will be blasted to remove all encrusted sand and used riser sleeves.
Before each pour, the alloy temperature is measured with a portable hand lance pyrometer from the ladle. The alloy can’t be poured before it reaches it’s assigned temperature. In this case, 2,845 degrees Fahrenheit.

Firing up the ladle. The ladle is used to transfer the molten metal from the melt furnace to the mould. It must be at max temperature to avoid any thermal shock once the metal is poured into it.
