My Teen was in a Car Accident. Now What? Your teen calls and says they’ve been in a car accident. Now is your time to take a deep breath, calm them down and, together, follow these steps to get through the next few minutes. Call 911. Ask them first if there’s an injury. If there is, call 911. Even if no one is hurt, it’s still a smart idea to call....Continue reading

It is always nice to receive praise from clients, and with our clients permission they asked me to share their comments. Good afternoon Mike! I am writing to give praise to your broker Tara Fancy. I have spent the day in e-mail correspondence with her about Ethans policy. She persevered through my endless questions about the policy. She addressed the little hiccups we discussed and then found Ethan a terrific deal going forward with great savings in a 3-month policy and the ...hope of more savings beyond. I am very happy with the services offered through your office and look forward to years of similar service in the future. Please pass this on to who should hear of this great customer service! Sincerely, Connie Whitely and Ethan Whitely See more

Interesting car facts for insurance costs, and a step away from Covid updates for a change. Car shopping includes finding out how much insurance costs for one vehicle over the other and clients with a Mazda CX-3 will see the lowest insurance rates, according to a recent report. Last year, the CX-3 was fourth but moved up to the top with an average cost to insure of $1,324. The average cost to insure a vehicle was $1,904, up $92 or about 5%.... The Honda CR-V LX ($1,333) and Jeep Wrangler Sport S rounded out the top three. The common thread? All are sport utility or crossover utility vehicles. The CX-3 doesnt come equipped with overwhelming horsepower (148 hp) and its recognition as a Top Safety Pick in 2019 by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS), helping keep premiums low. Honda managed to put three vehicles in the top 10 (the CR-V LX in second, the Odyssey LX in sixth and HR-V LX in 10th) and five in all in the top 20. It had the only sedan on the list, the Fit LX Sensing. Its Honda Sense package, which comes with a variety of safety features, is standard, the site said, making it cheaper to insure. As for the Jeep Wrangler, its considered a bare-bones type of vehicle, allowing for cheaper insurance. Jeep owners typically drive slowly, parts are basic and readily available, leading to lower repair costs, said Michael Harley, executive editor for Kelley Blue Book. On the other end of the spectrum, luxury cars were the most expensive to insure. The Mercedes AMG GT R and Audi R8 5.2L V10 Quattro Performance would setback owners more than $4,000 in annual premiums. The Nissan GT-R, BMW M8 Competition XDrive convertible and Mercedes S65 AMG rounded out the top five, all costing at least $3,900 to insure for the year.

Following up with some Auto rate reduction news. Today we focus on Economical Insurance. If you are driving less, you may be eligible for an enhanced reduction on car insurance rates. Many insurance rates are calculated using an expected number of annual kilometres driven, so customers who disclose this change could, on average, see a difference of up to 15% in their monthly rate, until June 30. If you previously had a long commute, you may save more than someone who drove fe...wer kilometres annually. If you arent driving at all and your car is now parked, you can change the type of coverage on your vehicle for significant savings on your monthly rate - up to 75% on average. Applying a coverage suspension to your vehicle is a great way to reduce your rates while keeping your insurance policy active. You should ensure your policy will still protect you if youre injured as a passenger in another car, or even as a pedestrian, if you do decide to remove some elements of coverage. You must inform your Economical broker before you start driving again so you have at least the provincially required coverage in place. If your monthly budget has been impacted by COVID-19 through lack of employment or other factors, you may be eligible to defer your monthly payments, change your payment plan, or alter your method of payment to find a solution that fits your needs. If you are supporting your community by using your personal vehicle for things like volunteering or some form of delivery support, there will be no impact to your premium, but you should disclose this to your insurer. Economical will continue to assess these measures and ensure the right options are in place for customers. Alongside valued broker partners and dedicated employees, Economical is prepared to support Canadians through COVID-19. Also with all insurers, we would encourage you to submit any relevant changes in risk profiles so they can be re-rated to reflect a more accurate lower premium (e.g. changes in annual/daily mileage).

Following up with some Auto rate reduction news. As we will post what insurers are doing as we find out. Today is ECHELON Insurance, Echelon Insurance... A rebate of up to 15% off premiums is available to Echelon customers. Brokers should work with their clients to reduce premiums, available to those who reduce the mileage associated with their policy. Echelon also recommends that clients speak to their brokers about taking off all but comprehensive coverage from their policy to enable a premium reduction of up to 80% if the vehicle is safely parked and stored amid the pandemic. These measures are in addition to previously-announced relief measures by Echelon: Those facing financial challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic can also take advantage of flexible payment options and having missed payments fees waived; Customers using their vehicles for volunteer delivery will get extended overage; Customers wont go without coverage; and premium rates will be frozen to ensure no additional expense for clients. We understand that many customers are doing their part. They are staying home and driving less, resulting in fewer cars on the road, said Robin Joshua, president of Echelon Insurance. We want to do our part by introducing additional measures to ease the financial burden this crisis has caused, while also recognizing the reduced risk associated with changes in driving behavior. Also with all insurers, we would encourage you to submit any relevant changes in risk profiles so they can be re-rated to reflect a more accurate lower premium (e.g. changes in annual/daily mileage).

This coverage means you must first deal with your own insurance company for all claims, whether youre at fault or not. But, Ontario will allow a no-fault driver to sue an at-fault driver for additional damages and costs that are not covered by their accident benefits. Accident Benefits... Covers your medical benefits if youre injured in a crash, whether youre at fault or not. What To Do If A Tree Damages Your Property A tree falling onto your property is no fun. In fact, it can sometimes be downright scary. We understand. Thats why weve put together a helpful list of tips for dealing with a fallen tree. Make Safety Your First Priority... * If someone is injured, contact emergency services. *If there are any damaged power lines or electrical hazards, contact the local power company as soon as possible. * If you smell gas, evacuate your home immediately. Once youre a safe distance from your home, contact your local gas company to inspect for a possible leak. Once Youre Safe... *Contact us to begin your claim when its safe to do so. *Get a trusted contractor to check your home for damages, inspect for safety and identify potential repairs. We recommend this is done when there is no obvious major damage to the dwelling or other property structures. *Remove any remaining portions of the damaged tree and cut down any trees (or portions of trees) that are unsafe. You or the service you hire to remove the tree may be required to have a permit, so its best to ensure thats in order before getting started. *Protect yourself and the people around you by securing or removing any property that is loose. *Protect your home and the valuables within from bad weather by putting a tarp or cover over broken windows or other exposed parts of the home. *Secure any broken fencing caused on your property to limit your vulnerability to intruders. *For peace of mind, we recommend taking pictures of the damaged area (only if its safe to do so), so you have visual aids handy if you need them as part of your insurance claim. How To Prevent Future Issues Having a tree topple onto your property may seem like a random event, but here are some things you can do to reduce the risk of this happening to you: *Take care of your trees. For big jobs, consider hiring an arborist to help with any challenging upkeep. *Look out for warning signs. Little things like a leaning trunk, cracks at the base of the tree or broken limbs resting on healthy limbs could signal future danger. *Get advice from an arborist on the health of a potentially dying or dangerous tree. *Talk to the neighbours if youre concerned about the state of their trees. If the neighbour refuses to address the issue, send follow-up communication in writing and keep copies if they need to be referenced later.

Know The Reason for Car Insurance Rate Increases? There are many factors to consider. Even if youre a model customer with no claims, other reasons beyond your control could be pushing your premium up.... 1 Fraudulent claims are increasingly common. Fraudsters who stage accidents to make money are causing rates to increase across the country. In Ontario, the Insurance Bureau of Canada reports that fraud costs an estimated $1.6 billion per year ($236 per driver). 2 Distracted driving is on the rise. Distracted driving now outpaces drunk driving as a leading cause of accidents and deaths on the roads. Premiums are increasing to offset the costs of these claims. 3 Trends might show your area as a higher risk for collisions, theft, or other incidents. Your premiums could increase if analytics show your area has become more prone to risks (like extra traffic congestion or extreme weather events that lead to collisions, for example). 4 Medical services are more expensive. Its not just physical repairs that can cause premiums to rise. Accident victims usually need medical services like physiotherapy to recover, which cost more every year. 5 Autonomous features mean safety, not always savings. Newer vehicles now offer a wide range of autonomous capabilities like adaptive cruise control and park assist to keep you and your passengers safe. The flip side? They also use complex computers and sensors that cost more to repair. 6 Windshields now have built-in technology. New advanced driver assistance systems make windshields more expensive to replace. Recalibrating a cars computer system following a windshield replacement also adds to labour costs. 7 Front and rear bumper sensors are pricey. Even a tiny fender bender can require a bumper replacement, and many repairs require the cars computer system to be recalibrated for the sensors to work. Those extra labour costs can really add up.

Will A Ticket Change My Insurance Premium? Getting served with a ticket doesnt necessarily guarantee your premium will change. For example, parking tickets are not going to count against your driving record or your insurance. Speeding tickets and traffic violations are another matter. These types of tickets will have a direct effect on your insurance premium. Thats because insurers look at driving records to determine how much of a risk you pose. If you have convictions rel...ated to your driving, thats going to increase your insurance premium. Ask your Insurance Broker how much $$$ one ticket can increase your premiums by. Also is there a way to protect your rates from increasing in case of one minor conviction? Short answer "Yes" ask your Insurance Broker how? Be safe and follow the rules of the road.
