In light of the heartbreaking disclosure of the remains of 215 children at the former Kamloops Indian Residential School, I am writing to express my deep apolog...y and profound condolences to the families and communities that have been devastated by this horrific news. Each time new evidence of a tragedy is revealed, or another victim comes forward, countless wounds are reopened, and I know that you experience renewed suffering. I take this opportunity to reflect upon the apology I gave publicly before the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in 2013, words to which I remain committed and accountable: I wish to apologize sincerely and profoundly to the survivors and their families, as well as to all those subsequently affected, for the anguish caused by the deplorable conduct of those Catholics who perpetrated mistreatment of any kind in these residential schools. The Church was unquestionably wrong in implementing a government colonialist policy which resulted in devastation for children, families and communities. If words of apology for such unspeakable deeds are to bring life and healing, they must be accompanied by tangible actions that foster the full disclosure of the truth. Truth comes before reconciliation. On behalf of the people of the Archdiocese of Vancouver, I commit to the following first steps in support of the Nations, families and communities impacted by the recent heartrending disclosure: 1. We will be fully transparent with our archives and records regarding all residential schools, and strongly urge all other Catholic and government organizations to do the same. Our records regarding the Kamloops Indian Residential School (Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc) were provided to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and will remain available for review. 2. We will offer and support mental health support and counselling for family members and others whose loved ones may be buried on the site of the former Kamloops Indian Residential School. 3. We will offer to assist with technological and professional support to help the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc and other affected Nations in whatever way they choose to honour, retrieve and remember their deceased children. 4. We commit to supporting the same process and resources to all Nations in whose territories Catholic-run residential schools were forcibly located, and which fall within the historical boundaries of the Archdiocese of Vancouver. 5. We will renew our efforts to listen to Indigenous Peoples to hear from you how we can best walk with you along the path of justice. We recognize that there is so much work remains to be done, yet we hope that, if we persevere in these commitments with humility, we can restore the trust among us that will bring healing.

Today we celebrate the Most Holy Body and Blood of Jesus Christ (Corpus Christi). As Catholics, we believe that the Eucharist we receive at Mass is truly Jesus, fully present body, blood, soul and divinity. As such, the Eucharist is the source and summit of our entire faith! Thank you Jesus for continuing to give Yourself to us in the Eucharist!

Happy First week of Lent All Saints Parishioners! What is the Stations of the Cross devotion? It is an opportunity to accompany Jesus in His sorrowful journey towards Calvary, meditating on His sufferings and death. There are several opportunities to pray this devotion:... Families and parishioners may come to pray the outdoor Stations of the Cross after 4pm on weekdays and anytime on weekends outside of QAS school. (See more instructions here: https://www.allsaintsbc.ca/news) Every Friday during Lent, starting on February 26, Stations of the Cross will be live-streamed at 6:30pm before the livestream evening Mass (https://www.youtube.com/cha/UCsTKVUgt6-nMeVMIYKmKgKw/videos) Every Saturday during Lent, starting on February 27, the church will be open at 12-8pm for private prayer of the Stations of the Cross! (The pews will not be available for use, and you will need to bring your own prayer materials. Please sanitize your hands, maintain physical distance, and wear a mask.) And the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us, and we saw his glory, the glory as of the Father's only Son, full of grace and truth. ~ John 1:14 Our Savior has been born! From All Saints Parish, we would like to wish you a very Merry Christmas! Christmas is an invitation to make Jesus more alive in your family! We pray that you and your family may encounter Him more deeply than ever before. And that you sing lots of songs, eat delicious food, make fun memories, give presents to your loved ones and receive much love!

Dear Parishioners, Christmas is drawing near so I am writing to give you the schedule for masses, confessions and distribution of holy communion from now until January 10. Here is the website link on where you can find more info for the Live-Streamed Masses, Confessions and Distribution of Communion: https://www.allsaintsbc.ca/christmas (Note: For Communion: Please come to the church immediately at the end of the live-stream masses. The masses will last approx. 50 minutes. Yo...u can also view the live-stream from your car in the church parking lot. *** Be sure to check out our spectacular Christmas window display *** (see details in the website). Welcome Fr Bryan: We are blessed to have Fr. Bryan Duggan with us for a month over the Christmas season. He will be staying at the parish rectory and assisting with our Christmas liturgies. Dear Parishioners, The Advent season is a great time for spiritual growth. Here are two parish activities I encourage you to participate in.: - ADVENT GIVING TREE: Our Advent Giving Tree will be a little different this year. Instead of purchasing gifts for the needy, parishioners are invited to donate money that the organizers will use to purchase gifts for five local organizations: Talitha Koum Society, Luke 15 House, St Vincent de Paul Society, Hawthorne Care Centre and C...artier Care Home. The project is being organized jointly by Lisa Styka and Deacon Greg. Donations should be made through the archdiocesan website: https://support.rcav.org/donate-one-time/. Ensure you put All Saints Parish under Parish Name and in the Comment Box Advent Charity. Donations must be received by December 18. Thank you for helping the needy this Advent. - NOVENA OF PRE-CHRISTMAS MASSES (Simbang Gabi): December 15 - 23 the parish will celebrate Mass at 7 pm with special preaching and music. While this Simbang Gabi novena is a Filipino devotion, it is spiritually enriching for all Catholics. Each 7 pm Mass will be livestreamed and after mass you will have the opportunity to receive Holy Communion in front of the church. Just wait in your car until a volunteer directs you to one of the communion stations. If you have not yet been to confession you may do so before each of the novena masses. Beginning December 15 confessions will be heard in the hall every evening at 6 pm. It’s challenging to worship during the pandemic, but let’s take advantage of the opportunities available to us. Love, Father Don

Dear friends, By now you will have heard the disappointing news no public masses for Christmas. It is a frustrating situation for us all. Fortunately, you will still have an opportunity to come to church, see a few fellow parishioners and participate in the worship. ... How?: Archbishop Miller has given us permission to distribute Holy Communion to the faithful after our live-streamed masses. This is your best opportunity to prepare for the Christmas celebration so I encourage you to come and join us. How the distribution of Holy Communion will work: -The faithful are to watch our live-streamed Mass, either in the church parking lot or at home (in which case they need to drive to the church after Mass). There will be WIFI in the parking lot and volunteers to supervise the parking. -After the Mass, a volunteer will come to each parked car and invite the occupants to proceed to one of the communion stations outside the doors of the church or parish hall. -Everyone must wear a mask. Hand-sanitizer will be available near the communion stations. Communion will be distributed for 60 minutes after each of the masses. Remember that Sunday masses last an hour, while weekday masses only last a half-hour. Here is the schedule for the pre-Christmas live-streamed masses: Dec. 13: 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Dec. 15-23: 7:00 p.m. (Simbang Gabi novena of pre-Christmas masses) Dec. 20: 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. GO TO CONFESSION BEFORE CHRISTMAS Advent is an excellent time to go to confession and prepare our hearts for the coming celebration. Jesus loves us and wants to give us healing and peace through this sacrament. I will be hearing confession at the following times: Dec. 12: 9:30 a.m. 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. 4:45 p.m. (In the church) Dec. 15-23: 6:00 7:00 p.m. (In the Parish Hall) Yes, my friends, Christmas 2020 is going to be rather different. But let us seize the opportunities the Lord has made available. He is close to us even in the present challenging time. LOVE, FATHER DON
