They say a journey of a million miles begins with a single step, or in our case a single decision to go out and purchase a Case backhoe. Today we celebrate 51 years in business. Over the years we have been fortunate to be surrounded by so many talented, hard working people that have helped to bring us to where we are today. Another gravity fed filter bed going in today. Very similar to the last site this one is again almost as basic as they come. This time we have had to use smaller equipment to access the site and move material around to the back yard. We are also utilizing a Roth poly tank from @waterloobiofilter as there is no room to back a large truck in and lift a concrete tank into place. When it comes to the tank we could have went with a 1200 gallon tank but opted to upsize it to a 1500.... Although this added some cost in the long run this additional expense will be offset by improving the effluent quality that reaches the dispersal bed. A small extra cost now will go a long way toward ensuring a long lasting bed. At this site we kept the system and control panel away from the home as the client intends to demolish the existing home and rebuild in the future. Keeping the system and controls away from the home means it can be easily disconnected during the demo / build and reconnected when things are complete. Demolition complete. Was pretty impressive to see Fast Freddy had the building half gone by 8:30am. By 3pm everything was all cleaned up, loaded up and out of there in less than 9 hours. Thanks to GFL for hauling the bins in and out like clock work and to Doug in dispatch for getting the equipment and trucks to the site when needed. Excellent to work with so many people who can make things happen in a big way!

Filter bed construction in East Garafraxa. This septic system is almost as basic as they come. If we had better native soil conditions we could have even eliminated the extended contact area and saved our client more. In any event a gravity fed system with a single tank and bed is not to bad. Whenever possible the old adage of keep it simple smarty applies.

Storm water management is often unseen on the more confined sites with Engineers opting to preserve usable space and manage the water with underground chambers. Failed septic tank, emergency repair underway. For this site we completed all the paper work and got the necessary approvals in place to proceed with this repair in short order. By the end of the day we should have things reconnected and flowing out to the bed again. Waterloo Biofilter installation all finished up. On this site we were constrained by the Conservation Authorities to keep the system within a tight building envelope to preserve the surrounding trees. As you can see from the last photo there was good reason for that. Frank and John did an excellent job making this system blend in nicely on the property without compromising on quality. When we share our story we try to share a bit about what makes us different. The client we are working for in the photos hired a company to complete a septic installation that they had never done before and they were not able to finish. We got the call from the builder asking if we could come out and help them out of a jam. It ended up with us taking on finishing the job. Not only will we finish this job, on day one of our install our Foreman Frank picked up on ...a slight modification we can make at no cost to the client to improve the function and longevity of the bed. Having the experience to pickup on soil conditions and how to optimize things is something that could take a bed designed for 25 years to 50 or beyond. The little things often go unnoticed but are no less important. Long term this modification might mean the bed will still be functioning well in 25 years and the homeowner will not need to put their hard earned money into replacing it. We have completed all the excavation work, lot grading and will soon be installing the septic system at this site in Amaranth. Part of this business you almost never hear about is the part where things don’t go according to plan. The photos in the post are from a job where things did not go according to plan. The tanks were set into the water table and shortly after installation water was infiltrating. After some investigation we discovered a hairline crack. We along with the clients were disappointed that this had happened but right from the start, made sure they understood we would make it ri...ght. In this case that meant completely removing the tanks and replacing them. It is no small job to install large septic tanks and certainly not something you want to do twice. That said making things right, standing behind our job and ensuring our clients are happy is part of what has brought us to where we are. When these things happen what you want is for someone to stand behind the product or service and make it right without a fight. I think we all understand perfection as much as we wish it was possible just isn’t reality in most cases. I’m happy to say this story ended with a happy customer who recently reached out about another project. Backflow preventer installation today in Orangeville. This was a tricky one to accomplish. We had to start by cutting it in half to allow us to get it in the manhole. 1000 gallon septic tank replacement and bed flushing underway. This tank had seen better days for sure. The lid was completely cracked and part of it had fallen in. For this site we completed all the paper work and design details for the building department and NEC to review and approve the replacement.
