The MTAA is pleased to announce that we have had confirmation from the Alberta Government that effective January 18, 2021, there will no longer be a requirement... for massage therapy clients to get a prescription or referral in order to access massage therapy services. Massage therapists can return to their regular practice with respect to booking appointments with clients. See more

Happy New Year! I hope your holidays were merry and bright or at least you were healthy and happy! Here’s to 2021 being a better year! Due to mandated closure of all massage therapy by the Alberta Health Minister with the restrictions imposed before Christmas, all appointments henceforth were cancelled as it was unclear when we could return. The good news is RMTs are allowed to return to work! Thank you to everyone who signed the petition and emailed MLA’s, the Premier, ...and health ministers - our voices were heard! However there are some changes, with an updated policies&procedures and a required MD note or referral by an Allied Health Practitioner (physiotherapist, chiropractor, etc) from all massage therapy patients. Due to these changes it could prove difficult to acquire the referral necessary, if you do not already have one updated for 2021. I recommend everyone who wishes to resume their massage therapy health service to acquire that ASAP- as I will be unable to provide treatment without one. You can bring a printed copy of the referral if you are able to get into a physical appointment with your MD/Allied Practitioner or I can also accept emailed referrals to [email protected]. Once you receive a referral note, I am happy to book you in and am so looking forward to seeing you all again in the New Year!
