Many of our local partners are still facing Covid-19 restrictions, just as we are here in Canada. Many students aren’t able to attend their vocational training programs right nowbut one girl in our Cambodia safe homes didn’t let that hold her back. In her newfound free time, she learned to bake bread and is now providing bread for all 3 safe homes. She’s really enjoying the process and has started to dream about opening her own bakery one day! 12-year-old Piper, one of Ally’s youngest supporters, started creating and selling beaded masklaces in her free time last month. (Masklaces are necklaces for your face mask.) Our local partner in Laos recently facilitated 2 trafficking prevention programs to over 200 students. After the first presentation, leaders were approached by a student in the audience who personally knew of three people who had been trafficked. Thankfully, two of the survivors had since returned to their communities but one remains in an at-risk situation. We’re inspired by you! In October, we shared that our local partner in Cambodia had an urgent need for new transportation. In a span of two weeks, you rallied to raise $50,000 to purchase a new minibus. After picking up the new bus, our leaders called the safe homes and asked the children to come outside. The kids had no idea what they were waiting foruntil they saw the new bus drive around the corner wrapped with a giant pink bow. Between June and late September, Nepal experiences heavy rains and monsoons that often cause devastating flooding and landslides, especially in rural areas. Last month, our prevention team travelled to a rural village that was affected by a landslide. Our local staff (and older boys from our safe homes) distributed essential food supplies to over 50 families in the region.
