It’s not every day that someone turns 100!! Pearl is truly one of the most beautiful people you could ever have the blessing of knowing and it was a joy spending time with her today as she celebrated 100 years of age! Too many more Pearl!

The first few flakes of snow today and our Anna was whipping out the Christmas decorations and the Residents were happy to give their suggestions and opinions. They sure know how to cheer a place up with snowmen, Santa, some bright lights and LOTS of snow!

Please take a moment and consider supporting this worthy cause! Home Hospice North Lanark is holding a Tree Fundraiser - what a wonderful gift this would be for someone you love or even a gift for yourself! A beautiful way to commemorate someone you may have lost and in the process support a very worth cause and organization in our community.

What a beautiful gesture to honour all those lost to COVID ***The following note is from Karen Thompson, faithful volunteer and supporter of our home as well as former family member. Karen lost her Mother Mae to COVID this past Spring. ***I first heard about the Covid 19 Memorial Blanket on CBC. They directed me to the website Covid 19 Memorial Blanket. From there l registered my Mom, gave a small history about her, then went ahead and knit her square. ... The blanket is being assembled by volunteers in Fenelon Falls, Ont. On the website there is a pattern and yarn type to use. All the squares will be 12 x 12. This is a picture of Peppy and myself with the squares l knit for my Mom and his mom, Suzie. ***

Well it has been quite some time since we posted anything on FB but it is time to come out of our COVID hibernation and share some fun stuff with everyone! Our outbreak was declared over on June 29th and we are all working to adjust to our new normal...we can’t have dining room service or activities the way we used to but we still know how to have fun Joanne just happened to pick up her shiny new red scooter on June 30th and we convinced her to bring it inside and show all of our Residents on Canada Day! Everyone loved it ...if you see Joanne out and about Almonte, give her a wave!

We continue to be overwhelmed by the kindness and generousity of our community! One of these days we are going to write the longest post EVER with lots of pictures but for tonight, we just wanted to share our fun from last evening...our staff enjoyed a delicious meal from Mama's Place here in Almonte courtesy of our friends at Neilcorp - thank you Neilcorp! Chicken wings and strips, zucchini and mozza sticks, deep fried pickles, onion rings and party bread! Sometimes a little grease is good for the soul!

Thank you!! We have enough now thanks to your kindness!! Do you have any spare magazines or picture books sitting around in your home that you would be willing to donate? We would greatly appreciate magazines for our Residents such as National Geographic, Gardening, Home, Gossip etc. If you have any you can part with, please set them at our front door on the red chair, ring the doorbell and then step away so our greeter can bring them in. Thanking you in advance for your kindness - this will greatly cheer up our Residents!

Dear Friends, Family & Community Members of Almonte Country Haven, We apologize for our late update as we had hoped to get this posted for you much sooner. As you can imagine, we are at full running pace inside the hallways of our home. We are heartbroken to share this news with our families and our community.

Almonte Country Haven 29.06.2020

COVID-19 OUTBREAK NEWS: The evening of March 28th we were informed by Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Public Health Unit that we have three Residents that have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. Our unknown Respiratory outbreak is now deemed a COVID-19 Outbreak. Our number one priority is the safety and care of our Residents as well as the containment and prevention of further spread of the virus. We are working closely with our partners at the Leeds, Grenvill...e and Lanark District Public health Unit, the Ministry of Long-Term Care and the Almonte General Hospital as well as many other resources. We realize that this news raises a multitude of questions, concerns and uncertainties. We are respectfully requesting that you call the Public Health Unit for further information, unless your question is specifically related to your loved one. As previously communicated to our families, you can also visit www.omniway.ca where you will see a COVID-19 Update tab. From there you will find links to the following websites: Ministry of Health Ontario, Public Health Ontario, World Health Organization and the Government of Canada. We thank you in advance for your patience and understanding in responding to your calls as we have entered unchartered waters for our home and our main focus is our Residents and how we can care for them through a facility wide isolation period. Working together with Public Health, we have made the difficult decision to isolate every Resident to their room in an effort to prevent further spread for the safety of staff and Residents. For the first time ever, we will be delivering full meal service to 82 Residents, with a variety of dietary and feeding-assistance requirement needs in their bedrooms. We are taking every measure possible through Resident isolation and proper use of full Personal Protective Equipment by all of our staff. We will provide updates as possible.

Whether it's reading a card, crossing our fingers when baking cookies, getting a hair do, playing table top bowling, decorating for Easter or enjoying room visits we are all keeping busy and enjoying the smiles of Residents and staff.....

It may have been raining outside but the sun was shining inside when everyone was treated to ice cream cones. Activity staff went throughout getting lots of smiles from everyone...some even had all three flavours! Now that's living!
