ACC 2020-2021 Presidents Message Hello ACC members. I hope you are all doing well. It seems like a very long 5 months ago when our curling season came to an abrupt end in the middle of March due to the C-19 situation, Now with a new season fast approaching, I hope you are gearing up for what will be a very different curling season starting the second week of November. In my last message on July 11, I told you that the club was establishing a committee to review COVID19 rela...Continue reading

The curling season is fast approaching and your Almonte Curling Club executive have been at work forging a plan that will enable our members to Curl in this upcoming season, within the rules and regulations of Covid 19. The season will start on Monday 9th November. To comply with Curling Canada and Municipal guidelines we will be introducing PODS. PODS 1 - 6 are a group of curlers playing together twice weekly, POD 7 once weekly( This POD is for Ladies only, to be played W...ednesday morning) . YOU CAN ONLY PLAY IN ONE POD. Information on these PODS and their playing times are available on our website. Morning and Afternoon PODS will be capped at 24 persons for one draw. The evenings will be capped at 48 persons to allow for two draws. Start times may vary once the draw schedule is finalised. Each POD will have its own coordinator(s) drawn from its members. We are asking all curlers to have a registration form and payment to the Almonte Curling Club by Saturday 19th September. At the close of formal registration a decision will be made whether the season will go ahead based on those forms received. All registrations will be taken on a first come first served basis. Registration forms are available on our website www.almonte.ovca.com . Please email a completed registration form to [email protected]. A form sent this way must be accompanied by an e-transfer to [email protected] . We are unable to register you until both have been received by the club. We will also be holding two registration sessions at the Almonte Curling Club lounge, adhering to social distancing rules and regulations (so please bring a mask). The dates for these sessions are THURSDAY 17 Sept 2020, 7pm 9pm and SATURDAY 19 Sept 2020, 9am Noon. Payment can be made by e-transfer or by cheque. Your Almonte Curling Club executive committee will be present at those times to answer any questions or concerns you may have. We regret our usual leagues, Learn2Curl and Junior programs are unavailable at this time. PLEASE visit the ACC on our web page www.almonte.ovca.com and follow us on Facebook for all updated information on the upcoming season. Denny and Graham Jones ACC Membership Co-chairs

Message from Steve Conlon: Hello ACC Members... I hope everyone is doing well. Since we are still technically in curling season, I thought I would pass along an update on Allie. As some of you know he had his surgery on March 10th and everything went well... a week later he was home in Almonte and feeling very good. I briefly chatted with him today, and he is still feeling fine, he has home care come in for medical inspections, he gets a little tired from time to time but that is to be expected... he still has his GREAT positive attitude , I let him know that we are thinking of him... he his well on his way to a positive recovery.

The curling season may be over, but our Little Rocks' good work and the generosity of our members will continue to be felt especially now, during these challenging times. ACC members donated $195 in cash and 235 pounds of donated food and household items. More information in The Millstone article at the link <3

To all ACC Members As of today the Municipality of Mississippi Mills has closed all municipal run facilities starting today March 13th at 6pm to April 6th In light of this decision we have no alternative but to cancel the remaining 3 weeks of curling and curling related events.... I apologize for this inconvenience but with the current global situation I believe this was the correct approach the town of Almonte to make. I would like to thank all the members for a great curling season and hope to see everyone back in October 2020 for the new season Be safe over the next few weeks and months. If you have anything at club you can pick items up before 6pm steve ACC President

Hey curlers, This is Susan Macaulay posting. Last night at Monday night curling, I had a conversation with a couple of fellow curlers about shaking or not shaking hands before and after games and taking other precautionary measures with respect to COVID-19. I have begun to implement the advice of an overwhelming number of healthcare professionals worldwide including the Kingston physician at the link below, and my family physician whom I saw yesterday. Also, our President Ste...ve Conlon asked last week that we forego shaking hands in favour of "elbow bumps" or an equally "safe" alternative. I invite you to read the helpful article at the link below, and please don't roll your eyes at me if and when I say I prefer not to shake hands. #TYSM and #goodcurling #bettertobesafethansorry

Well, we gave it a good try and had a great time but in the end it was Richmond with the senior mixed, and Huntley with the men's, ladies' and mixed categories, giving Huntley overall honours. Thanks to Huntley Curling Club for launching this Cup, and to all ACC club members who came out to curl and to cheer the curlers on!
