I am so honoured to be part of @mcmullengallery ‘s annual Winter Show and Sale. Located at the U of A Hospital, this gallery normally provides an opportunity for healthcare workers, patients and visitors a chance to escape the chaos to a peaceful space surrounded with beautiful art. The UofA Hospital has a special place in my heart, as I spent weeks there when my daughter was young and very sick. My heart aches for the healthcare workers during this double edged attack by bot...h Covid and the provincial government. I was so excited to announce that in 2020, my work would be shown in the Alberta Branded store at the Alberta Legislature. It was a career dream come true and a sign that the work Ive been creating had value and that I had value as an artist. But @jkenney and his @alberta_ucp have decided to close it. This store was a treasure of Albertan art, craft and design. The employees are tireless champions who push artists, artisans and designers to create ever better work. The closu...re means that there is no longer a place to sell and showcase Albertan talent. No one was getting rich from it, but many are now scrambling. In the big scheme of things, with thousands of people losing their jobs, joining the thousands already out of work, this closure doesnt even make the news cycle.
