Lest we Forget- From the fallen came our freedom. . God bless all those who have served.
A few beautiful late fall days here in Manitoba. Hoping for the snow to hold off as long as possible.
Big jackpine on the menu today.
We often get asked what our preferences is for saws. We have a ton of saws but we use these 4 #stihlchainsaws day in and day out. MS261, MS241, M461, 201TC. These STIHL saws can take a pounding and get any job done.

Aftermath of the storm
Tamarack -burns like hardwood -burn hot (23-26 million btu per cord) -fire last longer -very little ash... -forms coals to make fire last the night -wonderful fragrance when burnt -last twice as long as other softwood cords See more

Have a great weekend everyone! .
This native fruit is the low-bush blueberry (Vaccinium angustifolium) that grows wild in the northeastern part of North America. Their stands spread on well-drained, highly acidic soil, only reaching about a foot in height. Blueberry barrens, rolling areas of sandy soil...The berries produced from this rugged terrain are quite small and sweet and are far superior to the cultivated blueberry plants with fat, often mushy, fruit that populate markets today. @ Elk Island
70 trees, 3 days... establish protection zone around cottage from the fierce winds coming off lake Winnipeg. This beautiful property needs almost zero tree maintenance for 20 years, a worthwhile investment in your property.

66 trees in the next couple days. Time to separate the men from the boys. actually on a side note, our female employees can out work most men 100%. @ Belair Forest, Mb
Pictures dont really do this big spruce any justice but this beast required STIHL 661...3 feet wide at the base. Had mixed feelings about cutting it down but the tree was in serious decline and was a hazard to the cottage . #stihltimbersports #stihlchainsaw #stihl661 #arboristlife #beaconia #manitoba #canada
Swipe Attention to detail. If you want it done right, we are worth the wait. Once the tree work is done, our clean up is still the best in the business. #alpha #forestry #solutions @ Manitoba, canada
Highbush Cranberry......another common local shrub. You can often see the bright red berries linger into the winter months. Produces bright red juicy acidic fruits that are ripe from August to September that are very similar to the cranberry (but from a different family). Makes a terrific jelly or pie filling. The tart berries were used by the Ojibway people as food, while the bark was used medicinally for relief of menstrual cramps.
Blue skies for days.
A nice crown raise and thinning on this beautiful oak tree. A little bit of maintenance on a tree which is a focal point in your landscape, tends to add substantial value $ to your property. #grandbeach #manitoba
Abies balsamea or balsam fir.... very common coniferous tree here in the east beaches . Balsam fir was one of the most used medicinal plants by First Nations. The sap/resin has both antiseptic and analgesic properties.. Resin can be easily harvested in small quantities from blisters on the main trunk of small to medium sized trees. On piercing a blister the sap is quite free flowing. In rainy conditions this resin is also second to none as a fire starter. @ Albert Beach, Manitoba
Over the next few days, I though I would share a few of my favourite plants and trees that are native here in the east beaches and also some of their traditional uses as medicine or food. Amelanchier alnifolia also known as Saskatoon. By far my favourite berry. Easy to pick and absolutely delicious . An important traditional food of the Métis people. They are well known as an ingredient in pemmican, a preparation of dried meat to which saskatoon berries were added as flavour and preservative. @ Albert Beach, Manitoba
Removal of a Manitoba maple, also know as boxelder to our neighbours down south . The sap has been used to make syrup by indigenous people of Manitoba for thousands of years.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!
A little line clearing at Hillside beach today. Big rotten black poplars. #stihlchainsaw #stihlpower #arboristofinstagram @ Hillside Beach, Manitoba
