Alphabet Daycare is hiring! Special Needs Support Staff (Educator) Alphabet Daycare is a Reggio-based childcare facility in Red Deer. We implement the Alberta curriculum framework, Flight, and provide children with an inspiring and stimulating environment to investigate and to explore. Children grow, learn and develop through fun experiences. ... We are now inviting strongly committed candidates who possess a positive and sensitive attitude towards children to join our team as a special needs support staff. This candidate will be patient, attentive to details and able to take initiate. Priority will be given to candidates with experience in special needs childcare and relevant training. Shift: 8:30am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday Responsibilities: - Assist educators of the room in organizing and carrying out activities - Guide children with special needs to participate in groups and in fun activities - Conduct observations and make reports of observation to identify interests and needs of children - Help maintain a safe, warm and caring atmosphere within the room - Assist to ensure smooth running of the daily routines in rooms - Work with children both individually and in groups - Work with different age groups including infants, toddlers, pre-school and kinder - Oversee snack times and lunch, provide children with assistance when necessary - Assist children with toilet training and diapering Qualifications: Applicants should meet the following requirements: - A minimum of Childcare certificate Level 1 - Experience and/or training related to special needs childcare - Knowledge of the FLIGHT curriculum - Abilities to plan activities based on children’s interests and needs - Physically and mentally fit enough to work with children - Ability to work within a multi-cultural group and with children of diversified abilities - Experience with early childcare - Great understanding of children with a diversity of needs - Knowledge of developmental stages of different age groups - Ability to carry out positive guidance strategies - Able to stay calm in difficult situations - Experienced in handling challenging behaviours - Strong communication skills and able to develop strong relationships with families. - Abilities to work alongside other educators and employees as a team. - First-Aid Training - Criminal Check with Vulnerable Sector Check and Children Intervention Check How to apply: If you meet the above requirements, please send your cover letter and resume by email to [Email hidden] specifying ‘Special Needs Support Staff’.
