It was so neat to see an episode of Critical Reactions on YouTube feature Love Despair a couple of weeks ago. It brought back a lot of memories of staying up late writing music with Matt. I especially have vivid memories of composing the music for the first half of this song (the Love section). We used to record guitars straight into Matt’s computer playing to a metronome click. I remember Matt being excited by the melody I improvised on guitar at the beginning which we later changed to be played by the bass. Matt then constructed a really interesting bass line to go with the arpeggios I was playing on guitar. I knew I had a CD of what we recorded that night somewhere, which I found last night.
