One of the programs we have been lucky enough to be involved with. The Wilderness First AId course is a very practical course and has good use for many different groups that work and play in the back country, this course allows you to do both. NIC and especially their Adventure Guiding program is a good introduction to working in the outdoors and Dave Pinel is one of the great instructors for this type of program. Thanks for the link Dave! https://www.nic.bc.ca//adventure-guiding-delivery-partners/

Today marks the 10 year anniversary of the tragic loss of Paramedics Ivan Polivka and Jo-Ann Fuller. Ivan and Jo-Ann, both from the Tofino Station, were return...ing from the hospital in Port Alberni when their ambulance was involved in a single vehicle accident. The unit plunged off a narrow road and into Kennedy Lake. Both veteran members tragically lost their lives. Today at 3:00 pm, here on our Facebook page, we will be live-streaming a small and intimate ceremony being held in Tofino. We invite you to join us in remembering the lives of Jo-Ann and Ivan, as well as the eight other Paramedics who have given the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day, the power of coming together and reaching out to each other is immeasurable...It can save lives. We can learn a lot from ...people impacted by suicide. Many people who survive suicidal thinking or behaviours describe the intense pain, filled with hopelessness and despair. They also talk about wanting the pain to end, not necessarily to die. That pain is often caused by complex and unique circumstances that could include a treatable mental illness, stressful life event, and/or difficulties with coping skills. Interventions exist that can help with each of those challenges and people need to be aware that things can change. People often fear intervening. Taking a moment to reach out to someone a close family member, a friend, or even a stranger can change the course of their life. Because talking about suicide is difficult, listening with a non-judgmental ear can help lessen feelings of isolation and remind the person that others care about them. If you or someone you know are in immediate danger of suicide call 911 immediately. Learn more at https://www.suicideprevention.ca Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention - CASP

Looking for another OFA 3 in the Lower Mainland. We have been getting busier and need a relief medic for our regulars in that area. I suspect that this could lead into a regular spot if someone wants it or stay as a fill in spot if preferred.

Big shout out to BC Ferries today. We were on the ferry today when a passenger jumped off. The response went very well. Someone had a life preserver and smoke canister in the water within about 300 meters. Boat launched fairly quickly with a rescue crew on it. Luckily a passing boat got to the patient a bit before the ferry crew and held him until the ferry crew could retrieve him. Patient was handed over to the Coast Guard hovercraft and taken to the city. Again, from my background that was a very good well organized response by the BC Ferry crew!

I'm excited to be doing a contract for the next year in the film and television industry helping to support safety and COVID compliance. One aspect of this wil...l be the COVID-Testing program for their required risk management. We are starting with nurses as swabbers, but exploring other professionals who can join the swabbing team, as there is precedent for medics and others to do this in several Canadian provinces. Wanna be a nose tickler for the film industry? Lots of other opportunities as well. Screening, zone monitoring, providing PPE teaching and more. DM me! https://myemail.constantcontact.com/Nose-Tickling-Opportuni
