We currently have 28 manual wheel chairs out on loan across New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. This means we have saved families $140,000 and from having to purchase this equipment from their own pockets. Manual wheelchairs are meant for people who spend long periods of time in their wheelchair. Having a manual wheelchair does not necessarily mean the person is no longer able to walk. Manual wheelchairs are used when there is a longer distance to travel, to conserve energy and to... keep people with ALS safe from falls, etc. How does the ALS Society afford to do this? The ALS Society of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia is partially government-funded, but most of our funds come from the fundraising initiatives and the generosity of our donors. Together, we are creating hope for families on the ALS journey.

This is donor dollars at work! Our Equipment Tech and Delivery, Cecil, is adjusting this power wheelchair to go out to someone with ALS at no charge to them. Power wheelchairs allow people with ALS to be mobile as they start to lose their ability to walk. Wheelchairs are also used so that people can conserve their energy.... When someone needs a power wheelchair, it usually means they will spend lots of time/ most of the time in the chair. It's really important to have a chair that is customized to the person's size and needs. Power wheelchairs are very expensive. A power wheelchair costs around $30,000+. Even with insurance, co-pay is often unaffordable. This is provided FREE OF CHARGE thanks to the generosity of our donors. Please note: If you think a power wheelchair would be a good fit for you or your loved one, please talk to your healthcare professional such as your Occupational Therapist. Once we receive a requisition from your healthcare professional, the ALS Society works to get the equipment to you to start using.

Take a second to watch an interview we did yesterday here at our office! Ana from CTV came in to talk about our Equipment Loan Program and about our upcoming ALS Walk Strong fundraiser. We were also joined by our ALS Walk Ambassador, Tammy Landry. This is a great way for us to bring awareness to ALS and the burdens that come with an ALS diagnosis. Please share with your friends!... https://atlantic.ctvnews.ca/video?clipId=2158075

We have been hearing a lot lately from people who have equipment from the ALS Society of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia just how much it means to them that they have this equipment and what it can do for them. A person with ALS was able to fulfill their wishes by staying in their home as the disease progressed because of the equipment loaned by the ALS Society. Another person with ALS is able to attend their kids' extra curricular activities because they have a power wheelcha...ir to get them around. Consider purchasing 50/50 tickets so we can continue providing these experiences for people with ALS so that their difficult journey can be just a little easier. https://rafflebox.ca/raffle/als

We just got this brand new manual wheelchair added to our inventory! This piece of equipment costs about $5,000. More than what many families could afford to purchase. This wheelchair will go to someone with ALS at no cost to them. We have been able to check off a few things off Terri's Wish List in time for the Holidays... But we are in need of more equipment to replace aging equipment. Currently, we are in need of new mattresses for our hospital beds.... Can you help us? Purchase 50/50 tickets for the first draw on December 15! https://rafflebox.ca/raffle/als Please help us by asking your friends and family to participate and get that jackpot up! We are currently sitting at over $5,500 and want to get that up over $10,000 before December 15. *Open to NS residents only. Due to lottery licensing regulations, we are not able to hold a draw in New Brunswick at this time.*
