The Buffalo Creek Nature Park Pond is now skate-ready! As you can see from this photo, the pond looks a bit different this year we’ve divided it into three se...parate skating surfaces. Skating surfaces are also available north of the MEC, in Redwood Bay, and coming soon in Ash Park. Important Reminders: No more than five people can use a skating surface at a time, and you must maintain at least 2 metres of physical distance from anyone who isn’t a member of your household. Because there are limits to the number of people who can use the skating surfaces at a time, please be respectful of others who are waiting. Once there is a bit more snow, you will also see two separate tobogganing areas designated on the Buffalo Creek Nature Park hill, and the toboggan slide in Ash Park will open up. Again, gatherings cannot be larger than five people, and you must maintain physical distance of at least 2 metres from anyone who is not a member of your household. Ready to get out on the ice, only to realize that your skates are a bit dull? Free skate sharpening is available through the Town of Altona Recreation Department until December 22nd! Call 204-324-9005 to arrange curbside drop-off/pick-up. Be safe, and have fun!

The Altona Skating Club has partnered with the Altona Elks to sell their cash calendars! Calendars are $20. You can win cold, hard, CASH! Every day of the year there is a draw for a cash prize, with bigger cash prizes on the weekends and end of each month. Only 3000 calendars printed. With the announcement that the Southern Health Region will be moving into code red of the pandemic response, the MEC is now closed. Unfortunately, this means that all skating programs with the Altona Skating Club will be suspended until further notice, as of Monday, November 9.
