Always An Adventure Inc. makes special efforts to prioritize the interest, safety and well-being of wildlife before our birding and photography. It is our strict policy to never discuss locations of "Celebrity Birds" such as owls, endangered species or any animal that is sensitive to human encroachment. We continue to have a great relationship with the Kingston Field Naturalists and are sharing their latest updates in regards to Amherst Island and the Owl Woods like we do eve...ry year: "Special Note re Owl Woods The privately-owned Owl Woods on Amherst Island will be closed for the annual hunt from 16th Nov to 6th December inclusive. Please respect this long-standing agreement and stay out of the woods. If visiting at other times and you do see owls, the owners insist that these are not reported on any social media platform, including eBird, until the season is over (April the following year), or we risk losing access. Although owls are occasionally seen at other nearby locations, disguising your owl wood sightings as 'Amherst Island' or even 'Lennox and Addington' goes against the spirit of the message. Mark D. Read - KFN" Please, if you do visit Amherst this season, be honest and truthful and do NOT report any owls seen inside the owl woods in any form (including photos) on social media until April following the winter season.
Gorgeous full day birding Amherst Island today. Highlights were Hermit Thrush, Hoary Redpoll and White-crowned Sparrow. A surprise was one single Brant in with lots of Canada Geese.
The City of Ottawa has a real opportunity to implement Bird-Safe Design guidelines to address the 250 thousand birds that are killed annually in Ottawa due to building collisions. These building guidelines, approved by the Planning Committee, are now waiting to be approved by the councilors on Nov. 25th. Reach out to your councilors and let them know that Ottawa desperately needs to implement these guidelines if we are to have any chance of becoming a Bird Friendly City: https://bit.ly/32xcjuD

Wild Goose chase east of Ottawa this morning as we were twitching for a Bean-goose. First record for Ontario, and a lifer for both Tony & Nina, however, the verdict is still out wheter this is a Taiga or a Tundra Bean-goose.
