There’s nothing sweeter than a babies first smiles - those ones that you are SURE aren’t just gas smiles. But did you know that these smiles can also cue you into their developmental milestones? It can be especially handy for those babies born premature or even past due! These smiles typically begin to erupt at 6 weeks corrected age and will give you a baseline for their developmental age!

Slide this in there before I miss World Breastfeeding Week I was fortunate enough to breastfeed both of my boys until they self weaned sometime after their first birthday. Although there was definitely struggles at the beginning of my breastfeeding journey, I am very glad I stuck it out and was able to nourish and have that special bonding time with my kids. Sleep training and breastfeeding can go hand in hand. It’s not a choice between the two. Decreasing night feeds does...n’t end your breastfeeding journey, and if you’re breastfeeding you don’t need to feed hourly around the clock. At the end of the day, fed is best. Rested is best. It doesn’t matter how your baby fills their tummy or gets their sleep - what matters is both mom and baby enjoy the wild ride

Although formal sleep training doesn’t take place until around 16 weeks of age, there are lots of small tidbits you can introduce even younger to set your little one up for sleep success!

The goal to strive for when tweaking naps, is a nice long nap, that baby falls asleep quickly for and wake up HAPPY from! If your little one is doing any of the following, it’s time to tweak their wake windows: - taking extra long to fall asleep - taking only a short nap (less than 45 minutes)... - waking up still grumpy We want to see: - falling asleep within 15 minutes - a nap longer than a single sleep cycle (~45 minutes) - a HAPPY baby upon waking up. Let me know if you need a hand adjusting these wake windows

Save for quick look! It’s always nice to see if you’re on track! Remember these are just averages and if your little one differs but is still sleeping well, there is no need to adjust just to stay on track.
