B E F O R E I had the absolute pleasure of taking this gorgeous mom of two other beautiful gorgeous curlies! when she first came in she was lacking some definition and moisture, and wanted to bring blend her roots as well as get more volume and definition! After a consultation we decided the best cut that would look the best on her hair and suit her needs was to do a #devacut done on dry hair with some face framing layers that compliment her face! ... #curlygirl #naturalhair #oshawacurlyhair #devacut #devastylist #durhamdevastylist #curlystyle #nofrizzcurls #haircare #oshawacentre #cgm #naturallycurlyhair #curlyhairtips #finehairsolutions #healthycurls #curlyhairproducts #curlyhairinspiration #wavycurls #washday #curlyhaircare

C U R L Y C U T A N D B L O W O U T After a cut you can decide to get your hair styled naturally curly, or you can go for a beautiful blow out. which ever you decide I've got you covered! ... Whichever way you choose to wear your hair, it is still important to make sure you hydrate your hair properly, and use a heat protectant! By choosing a blowout, you are putting less heat on your hair, which is of course less drying on your curls, and going to keep your hair soft, shiny and healthy! @devacurl @ouidad @chattershairsalon @oshawacentre #roundbrush #curlygirl #naturalhair #oshawacurlyhair #devacut #devastylist #durhamdevastylist #curlystyle #nofrizzcurls #haircare #oshawacentre #beautiful #treatyourself #curlyblowout

Apple cider vinegar is a *natural* way to help rebalance the PH of your scalp. This is especially important during these winter months when the air is dryer. Apple cider vinegar will help to soothe any itchiness that might occur from build-up or dry skin. Apple cider vinegar will also help if you are prone to an oily scalp, or dandruff. Shampoos that are formulated with Apple cider vinegar are excellent because you are able to spread the product all along ...your hair and really feel where it is going, instead of adding handfuls at a time making sure that you've covered everything! If you are fighting an itchy, dry, or oily scalp why not give Apple cider vinegar a try! it might be the solution you've been looking for! If you have any other questions comment down below or send me a DM and I am always happy to help! #curlyhairproblems #haircare #knowledgeispower #happyhair #oshawacentre #loveyourself #durhamregionhair #scalpcare #askedandanswered See more

Hair shed explanation continued! * * *... Now that we covered the basics let's talk more about what that means! How often do you wash your hair, do you brush your hair? And if you're a curly girl chances are you go at least 3-4 days between washes if not longer! And during these no wash days there is also no brushing! Which means any hair that is shed during this time, is still going to be in the hair... until... that's right!!! WASH DAY!!!! Which means that instead of the typical 50-100 hair's your might see in 1 day, you're going to be seeing st least 3 times the average amount, 300, 400, 500+ every wash day! The other factor we need to consider is how your density is, if you have been blessed with a lot of density, then the 10-15% that is on your head is going to be more when compared to someone with an average or less than average density! There are of course instances when you could be sheding more hair, like if you've been under alot of stress, or if you haven't been getting enough protein in your diet! Feel free to share your wash day hair shed picture with me, it might just put your mind at ease! @oshawacentre @chattershairsalon @devacurl #devacurlstylist #devacut #curlsofinstagram #hydrationiskey #oshawacentre #oshawastylist #durhamregionstylist #hairlessons #oshawahair #durhamhair #curlsoftoronto

* * * ... Believe me, there is no feeling scarier in this world than feeling like you're losing too much hair! We've all had that moment, you know the moment, you're stuck detangling your hair and what feels like clumps of hair just keep coming and by the end of it your shower wall is covered!!! Your left looking at it, thinking... maybe even panicking.... wondering what is normal, and if all this hair means you're going bald! Stick with me and I'll help guide you through what is normal, and what some causes for above average hair shed/fall might be! First let's talk about your hair and the stages it goes through! We have our catagen, anagen, telogen, and exogen Anagen: this is the growing stage of your hair! 90% of your hair is in this stage at any given moment! Hair in this stage can continue to grow for anywhere between 2 and 7 years! Catagen: this is the transitional phase only about 5% of your hair is in this stage at any given time! Hair growth slows and the hair begins to separate from the bottom of the follicle. This stage lasts about 10 days! Telogen: is the resting phase anywhere between 10-15% of your hair is in this stage at any given moment! Hair stops growing, but doesn't usually fall out yet! New hair begins to grow from the follicle now that the old hair has been released! Exogen: is any extension of the telogen growth phase where the "dummy" hair start to shed 10-15% of your hair is in this phase. Brushing and washing helps to shed the hair from the scalp. It is normal to loose anywhere between 50-100 hairs per DAY during this time! @oshawacentre @chattershairsalon @devacurl #devacurlstylist #devacut #curlsofinstagram #hydrationiskey #oshawacentre #oshawastylist #durhamregionstylist #hairlessons #oshawahair #durhamhair #curlsoftoronto

* * * ... Let's jump straight into this because... and let's be honest there's ALOT that can cause frizzy hair from product build up, to a lack of moisture! Frizzy hair is the bane of the curly girl's existence! Everything we do from not brushing our hair dry, to the products we use are designed to combat frizz, but what causes it?? Well one of the main (but not only) causes of frizz is product build up , most commonly, but not exclusive to... silicones! If you are using products that contain non water-soluble silicones, then over time, you are going to coat your hair, which will no longer allow water to penetrate your cuticles, which will start to dry your hair from the inside out! So by clarifying once or twice a month and really READING your ingredient list you can begin your healthy hair journey! Another reason, is HOW we style our hair, and believe me when I say a good curly hair day starts with a good cleanse and condition routine! This gives you a detangled base, that has been nicely conditioned to start the defining process! It is so important to remember to have your hair completely wet before applying, ANYTHING... and I mean anything to your hair! Not shampoo, not your styling product ... nothing!!!! Unless your hair is nice and wet and when you squish it, it sounds like wet running shoes! The reason being is water is what helps to hydrate our hair and if your hair is happily hydrated then it will stay together! When your hair is lacking hydration your hair pulls apart trying to grab the water from the air. Similar to how a plant grows towards the sun!! our hair goes towards the water, in order to try to hydrate itself. Another reason is damage, be it from using hot tools, or colour and bleach it's important to know what our hair is lacking, so that we can give it support and make it healthy and happy! By adding protein or moisture, you are helping to add structure and hydration! @oshawacentre @chattershairsalon @devacurl #devacurlstylist #devacut #curlsofinstagram #hydrationiskey #oshawacentre #oshawastylist #durhamregionstylist

C U R L Y C U T * * *... Let's talk about the importance of clarifying!! Over time our hair can get coated and weighed down by the products we use, even our water leaves mineral deposits that can affect the colour and health of our hair. This can affect the texture of our hair, feel, and even how well our hair will take to professional lightening or colouring. If you are wondering if there is evidence of product build up on your hair visit your local salon or speak to a stylist and they can diagnose what sort of build-up could be affecting your hair, and how to properly cleanse it! Day dreaming of doing this lovely guest's hair we started by doing a Deva-cut and focused on reshaping her curls all while still maintaining her length! We then followed up with @redken preart treatment to get rid of all the product build-up that was weighing down her beautiful bouncy curls! And Conditioned with @aghair Boost conditioner We finished by styling with @ouidad Featherlite styling cream, @aghair coco spray from the natural line and @devacurl arc angel gel. @oshawacentre @chattershairsalon @devacurl #devacurlstylist #devacut #curlsofinstagram #hydrationiskey #oshawacentre #oshawastylist #durhamregionstylist
