We wanted to help The Gift CK spread the message about this Saturday's community-wide donation drive! Our staff members are excited to be lending their porches for this heartwarming cause. You can do the same by leaving donations on your porches as well! All of the information you need to know about this donation drive, including rural drop-off locations, can be found here: https://www.thegiftck.ca/. Let's come together again to show that miracles are not only possible but do happen in Chatham-Kent!

This December 1st marks the 8th annual #GivingTuesdayCA movement! It’s a time when charities, companies and individuals join together and rally for favourite causes. This year has been a challenging time for us all, but we continue to face this challenge head on with kindness and generosity. As the season of giving approaches, please consider supporting one of the many local organizations who give their all to support the C-K community. If you are able to this December, let your first gift be a donation to a local charity!

People with dementia are four to five times more likely to fall than older people who do not have a cognitive impairment. Here are some easy tips to #preventfalls inside your home when caring for someone with dementia: Make sure the home has enough lighting in each room to reduce visual difficulties. People with dementia might misinterpret what they see, so reducing dark areas and shadows is vital.... As a person living with dementia may have more sensitivity to noise, you should try and decrease the level of white noise and loud sounds around them. If the noise level becomes too much, it can cause anxiety and nervousness which can make a person with dementia unsteady on their feet. What a person wears on their feet can represent a major fall risk. If a shoe can easily slip off, it can cause them to trip. However, a person living with dementia may struggle with complicated articles of clothing that involve buttons or laces. Shoes with Velcro fastenings are a good solution, making footwear easy to take on and off, but also safely securing it to their feet.
