To all our friends, family, and most especially - our community small businesses: This is now week 9 that we have been closed as a non-essential business, and yet we are STILL waiting for the government to step up and help keep small business from closing their doors for good. Please, please - take the 30 seconds to click the link below, and send the provincial government an email, pressuring them to take the call to action, and get relief to the small businesses you know an...d love. Some things you may not be aware of: - not all small businesses are eligible for the federal ‘relief’. A loan (yes, it must be repaid), based on payroll of last year. For anyone that has few number of employees, mostly contractors on staff, or, like us, who incorporated late last year, we don’t show the numbers to qualify. This likely includes people like your hairdresser, tattoo shop, caterers, small shops with 1-2 employees, chiropractors, physios, etc. Rent relief has been talked about, but not executed - STILL. * Interesting fact: did you know that commercial rent differs from residential, in that if a businesses is ONE day late in paying their rent, the landlord has the right to send notice of eviction, seize and sell their assets, and have them removed from the property? ONE DAY. It is estimated that at least 1 in 3 businesses will permanently close their doors through this pandemic.
