Ok...a sad & heartwarming post ahead. Have you heard of the term "Rainbow Baby" before? A rainbow baby is a baby born shortly after the loss of a previous baby due to miscarriage, stillbirth or death in infancy. This term is given to these special rainbow babies because a rainbow typically follows a storm, giving us hope of what's to come. ... Precious little Ethan is a Rainbow Baby He was such a sweetheart in my studio! Beautiful Rainbow by Londyn in the Sky I figured with this image, it was time for a little update...many of you know that I am a volunteer photographer for the organization Empty Arms, a local Perinatal and Infant Loss Support organization here in Saskatoon. This charity not only provides support in hospital, but ongoing groups and follow up care for the days, months and years after. Being a photographer for this organization for the past 5 years, I have been able to share my talent and gift with many families and provide some of the only images of their precious babies, gone too soon. I am so honoured when a family chooses to allow an Empty Arms photographer & companion into the hospital to help them create memories and capture this raw time for them. For I know that in covid times, there are often many other family members and supports that would have wanted to surround this baby with love...but due to Covid restrictions, are unable to be in hospital. To know that my images can provide comfort to not only the parents, but siblings, aunts, uncles, grandparents and friends, it is nothing short of an honour. Happy 1st Birthday, Summer! She is a Valentine's Baby, and so much love surrounds her! With so many Covid restrictions in place in terms of physical gatherings...in person birthday parties are just not possible right now. We are almost at the one year point, which means every single one of us will have had at a pandemic birthday. How WILD is that! These precious little one year old's don't know life any other way than spending most of it with Mom, Dad or their caregivers. No... baby showers, no coffee & play place dates, no mommy & me classes and no big 1st Birthday Party. While it breaks my heart to think of all the things they miss out on....these precious little ones have a STRONG bond with Mom & Dad because of it, and that part is something to celebrate! Did you have a sibling? Maybe several? How close are you now? I have one brother, and he means the world to me. We have each other’s back, and support and love each other, pushing each other to achieve our best. It doesn’t mean we didn’t fight when we were younger though or now for that matter! Most likely one of the longest relationships you will have in your life will be with your sibling(s)! For all those new Mama’s this year, it’s been a tough one! It’s not how you envisioned it would be, it’s been exceptionally isolating and there has been a lot less in person support for you.
