Fall sessions were so fantastic yesterday! I can’t wait to start editing more of these photographs. Thank you to everyone who followed my Instagram stories yesterday haha. My sister @_soriano ‘s takeover was so entertaining for me to watch this morning. So grateful for her love and support. Should she do more takeovers? Let me know! Haha PS. All day she kept saying my fans need more. She’s awesome. It’s a bit gloomy here in Brampton but hopefully this adorable photo fro...m yesterday of Angela, Jackie and their adorable amost 7 month old pups named Yeti brightens up your day! He is so sweet!! Just look at little his jacket! I get to shoot Angela and Jackie’s wedding next year and I can’t wait!!!!!! They’re honestly comedians and I had such a fun time with them. Yesterday was #NationalComingOutDay and it got me thinking about the wedding industry and our role in creating safer and braver spaces for LGBTQ+ couples. In an effort to bring our community forward, here are some ways you can be more LGBTQ+ friendly in your businesses: 1- Mention on your website that you’re LGBTQ+ friendly. You may think this should be a given but unfortunately there are still lots of vendors who refuse business to LGBTQ+ couples for simply who they... love and how they identify. It’s BS. Also being part of the LGBTQ+ community isn’t only about who you love, it’s also about how you identify. #LoveIsLove isn’t all encompassing and so don’t stop there when speaking to the LGBTQ+ community because it leaves groups out of the conversation. 2- Share your pronouns when you meet someone new. You may not think this is a big deal but by sharing your pronouns you are creating a safe space for people to share their pronouns with you. Never assume someone’s gender / pronouns because feeling misgendered sucks and hurts tremendously. If you missed this step, go with names and gender neutral pronouns like folks, team or beautiful people. :) 3- If a couple reaches out to you, never assume they are in a heteronormative relationship. Use gender neutral pronouns like partner or significant other at first until you know. 4- When sharing vendors with your LGBTQ+ couples, make sure they too are LGBTQ+ friendly. In fact, how about we commit to only working with LGBTQ+ venders for all couples from now on. 5- If you have a guide that you share with couples, make sure it includes representation from LGBTQ+ couples and isn’t overly heteronormative. Think about the language you use when describing a traditional ceremony or any event throughout the day, are the pronouns inclusive of all couples? Using gender neutral pronouns will allow you to speak to everyone vs. leaving folks out. While you’re working on re-wording your guide, also consider your website, Pinterest boards, styled shoots, Instagram page and everything else. This is a short list but I hope it’s helpful! Feel free to share ways you’re providing inclusive experiences below! See more
