COBOSS... (pronounced "caaabass") At an early age I can remember running beside my dad as he walked out the back paddock dow the dirt path to go get the ladies and he would be endlessly calling 'caaabass, caaabass'.... I wondered what the heck he was saying and what the word or saying meant. But, as I watched these cattle beast listened and and within a few minutes they were all sauntering up to the gate to be let in for feed and milking. Just one word..... It could do magic. I was in awww. How could a word be so powerful. As I grew older, I learnt that cattle are alot like dogs in a similar way. If they are rewarded with some sort of treat (ex. New pasture, feed in a barn) they will remember--so the next time you have your WORD, OR SAYING they will respond and will continue as long as they're being rewarded. So, with all that being said I find myself now returning to these old ways of calling cattle and it brings so much childhood experiences forward again with joy and contentment. The words coboss -- derives from "come boss" meaning "a call to cows" and in Latin cow also means bos=ox &bull. It has been hard to know what to write on here lately. I show all the good. Hide all the stuff I don't want you to see on the farm.... Am I embarrassed? Yes My garden looks like a jungle. Cows are doing alright. There are things I would like done, but reality is when there are only so many hours in the day, so many days in a week and your partner works off the farm. I can only do so much as a mom, wife, farmer and business owner with two kids at my side asking if we can do something else? Are we done yet? I keep going and doing what I can. Try to accomplish what I can, with them helping and providing them with time to be kids- play, learn & explore. So after all... tomorrow is another day, a new beginning for trying again to get more of that "to do" list checked off. Going out of my comfort zone and trying new things that I never thought I could do.
