Have you been feeling out of sorts lately? I most certainly have and I'm sure digital fatigue is a part of it. Digital wha-who-sit? Fatigue. AKA too much digital time has left you feeling tired, uninspired, and unproductive. This can be especially harmful to us designers / creatives / freelancers who spend many working hours on-screen and then transition to Zoom meetings and video hangouts to socialize after hours.... Some helpful things to start putting into practice TODAY to help beat the digital fatigue: --- Set boundaries --- With clients, family, friends. Make sure your scheudule reflects the day that best serves you. Have set work hours and hours when you'll respond to emails, have your clients aware of these hours, and stick to them. --- Know the signs --- It is normal and okay not to be feeling okay. Because of information overload, the signs of digital fatigue can cause seemingly unrelated symptoms. One common symptom is the fragmentation of your mind. We find ourselves in an endless parade of Zoom meetings, FaceTime calls and email responses. Too much bouncing back and forth between tasks can lead to feeling mentally disjointed and cause anxiety. Too much anxiety in the emotional diet can lead to shortness of temper, hasty decision-making and overwhelm. (from www.entrepreneur.com/article/358112) These signs can manifest themselves physically too; feeling sore in our necks, head, eyes, tailbone, hands and feet due to extended hours of sitting or standing. If you're feeling any of these symptoms, readjust and do what you need to for your well-being. Put yourself first! --- Create 'you' time --- This relates to setting up boundaries as well, but creating chunks of time EVERY DAY to have 'you' time and do other things that aren't digital, helps keep you balanced. Going for walks, taking a bath, reading, writing, drawing; find something you enjoy and/or a way to pamper yourself daily. --- Communicate your needs --- You're not alone. Your peers are probably feeling this to some degree. Communicate with others and let them know what you're going though and what you need from them (like a weekly hangout), this helps others speak up for their needs too.

If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together. ~African proverb Mentorship is really really REALLY (get the point yet?) key in growing yourself as a creative. Having a mentor (or several) provides you a sounding board for ideas from people who have been there before. Which is honestly priceless.... Some places to find mentorship: Design groups and associations Designers you admire Professors who taught you Fellow design friends Other industry professionals When you're reaching out for mentorship, focus on building a genuine relationship! Be mindful of their time, let them know specifically why you're interested in mentorship from them and don't feel jaded if they don't have the time to take you on as a mentee at the moment. It's not you, it's just not great timing! And remember to thank them for their time, whether the outcome is what you were hoping for or not, who knows what other networking and mentorship possibilities will open up in the future! Did you know I also offer coaching and consulting for creatives and individuals? If you're in need of some design / creative / freelance / brand guidance, and want to make impact this year, DM me! Today we are celebrating one year of Tuesday Tik! So we're going to talk about starting that thing you've been thinking about. Are you holding back, waiting for everything to be juuussst right? Truth bomb It never will be. Just start that thing.... We hold back, wait, tell ourselves 'Once I do [insert X here] then I can launch', or once my website is perfect then I'll make it live... the list goes on and on my friend! We set up check boxes and items that need to get done rather than just doing the work. Nothing is, or ever will be, perfect and the longer you hmm and haw and wait until the moment is right to start, you never will or will have wasted time that you could have been learning and growing. Time will pass anyways! You have to start. Just start. It won't be perfect but it will teach you how to pivot, grow, and become better which is far more valuable than perfection anyhow. This time last year I started my Tuesday Tik series. I had no plans, ideas, or expectations on where it would go and I didn't feel that it needed to be perfect, so I just started something that I felt was important; sharing a weekly piece of motivation / tips / ideas to fellow creatives. Today, I get a lot of comments and feedback on how enjoyable and helpful the series is. Which motivates me to keep growing, pivoting, and providing the content. What have you been holding back starting? A project? Personal goal? Reaching out to someone? _ Take this as a hall pass to just get started and share what is is you'll be starting this week! Tuesday Tik is a weekly series about things I know. Design related bits, tips, business, being a creative, etc. Interested in insight on a certain topic? Have questions?
