Immediate Dentures are made to be inserted at the time of extractions. As your gums heal, the dentures become loose. The first step towards helping your dentures fit better is a Tissue Conditioner, which is a temporary liner typically done 3 months after your teeth are extracted. Within 12-24 months after extractions, you will have your dentures Relined. This is a permanent liner that will help the dentures conform to your healed gums.

After having your teeth extracted, the bone in your jaw slowly starts to deteriorate causing your gums to change shape. This is known as Bone Resorption and is the main reason we recommend new dentures every 5-8 years. Most insurance companies will cover a new set every 5 years, and a reline every 2 years. If you're concerned about the fit of your dentures, call us at 403-291-2272 to book a free consultation.

If your dentures are at least 2 years old it may be time to get them relined. Relining your dentures won't change the appearance of them however, it will help adjust them to the ever-changing shape of your gums.

Here are a few different options to replace missing teeth: A fixed bridge - One or more false teeth are cemented between healthy teeth. This will be inserted and removed by a dentist only; you will not be able to take it out yourself. Partial Dentures - One or more false teeth are held in place by clasps that fit onto nearby healthy teeth. These are easy to insert and remove yourself, making them easy to clean and take out at night. ... Dental Implants - Dental implants are used to support false teeth or replace a few missing teeth. You must have healthy gums and bone to support the implant. Your dentist will put a small metal post into your jawbone. Over time, the post will bond with the bone around it. The implant will act like an anchor to hold your complete denture in place. Complete Dentures - If you lose your teeth, complete dentures will replace all your natural teeth. You also have the option of inserting a few implants to help keep your Complete Dentures in place. Source: Canadian Dental Association

The real question is "Should I repair my denture myself?" and the answer is almost always no. If your denture is cracked, broken, or a tooth has fallen out; your denturist can recommend the appropriate treatment and figure out why it broke in the first place. Furthermore, what may seem like a simple fix isn't always so. If the pieces are not aligned perfectly it can affect your bite, fit, and or the esthetics, which may cause jaw pain, or create sores. Using over the counter products combined with lack of experience can end up being costlier than just having your denture repaired properly in the first place.
