SNOW SHOVELLING TIPS: 1. Warm-up: commonly, shovelling occurs after a period of inactivity, leaving people predisposed to strains. Try moving your back and upper limbs through 10 reps of full range of motion in each direction before removing all that that white stuff! 2. Switch Sides: By switching your lead arm from left to right (and visa versa) you disperse repetitive motions more evenly. ... 3. Wear appropriate gear: Supportive footwear with traction, or added grip aids help to greatly reduce your chances of slipping and/or falling. 3. Take Breaks: When engaging in new activity, our bodies have not developed the strength/power/endurance to match the required output. Listen to your body and take a hot cocoa break when it starts alarming you of fatigue. WARNING FOR SENIORS Every year, first responders are called to fatal deaths or people who have reached cardiac distress from shoveling the first snowfall. We are all ONE BODY, working together; ask for help and exchange some of your valuable, time-tested wisdom in return! Reposted from Aleesha Murdoch

Come see us! We are happy to be back!

Amie Leonard, RMT 26.08.2020

Yay! I will return to practice on May 19. However, as we all know with the return of our RMTs has come new procedures required by their governing college to keep the public safe. Though the protocols are different and comprehensive they are a necessary step for our RMTs to return to work at this time. The new protocols are as follows: Each RMT will self-screen themselves daily before commencing their workday with BC COVID-19 Symptom Self assessment tool. ...Continue reading

Update! While the province has mandated that we can return to work (yay!) mid month. We have to wait for the appropriate policies and procedures to be put into place by the CMTBC, WCB and provincial government. Hang tight everyone! We will see you soon!

Amie Leonard, RMT 29.07.2020

To my patients and friends, The B.C government has announced today that we can start reopening as soon as May 15. We will have to follow strict new rules and regulations. That are being released tomorrow by the provincial government and college of massage therapists. I will keep you posted as I know more and post any new policies and procedures here first. These may take a bit of time to implement so I ask for your patience and cooperation while we look ahead to our new norm...al. Thank you everyone. I am excited to (hopefully) see you all soon! Cheers!! Amie

Hello my lovely patients and friends, It’s been a while. I hope you are all doing well, staying safe and healthy. Last week Dr. Bonnie Henry, Provincial Health Officer, held a town hall and answered questions about our province returning to work. It will begin with essential services, surgeries and medical. Then start to work towards massage therapy and such. Hopefully I will be returning to you sometime in June. There will be changes for our continued safety and health. And... as I find out what these measures will entail I will keep you posted. This is all dependent on our continued cooperation with social distancing measures and quarantine. Please if in the meantime you are struggling feel free to reach out to me on here or via email or text (included below) and I can help you via FaceTime or zoom with stretching and self massage techniques as best as I am able to within my scope of practice. Or point you towards the appropriate answers. Please be patient my friends. This is a difficult and unprecedented time and we are trying to return to you as quickly as possible. Until then know that I miss all of you and wish you the best. Stay home, stay safe and wash your hands. Amie Leonard [email protected] 250-505-0145

To all my valued patients, I know that we had hoped to be back to you by Monday the 6th. However in accordance with the Ministry of Health the College of Massage Therapists of British Columbia has suspended practice indefinitely at this time to try to limit the spread of COVID-19. I will be keeping you updated as I get more information. I hope that each of you are keeping safe, healthy and sane.

Amie Leonard, RMT 01.07.2020

To all my valued patients, It is with a heavy heart that I must announce that in accordance with the College of Massage Therapy guidelines I have currently suspended my practice for the next two weeks. At which time we will evaluate the situation. I strongly feel that this is my social responsibility to protect our at risk populations and help to flatten the curve. I am hopeful that precautions taken now will speed up our return to normal. ... As of last night the College of Chiropractors has allowed them to continue practice with elevated hygiene measures. So I encourage you to continue to support Dr’s Bzdel and Phillipson and the office if you need care during this time. Please stay safe, wash your hands and check in with your friends and neighbours during this unprecedented time. Amie

Happy Saturday! Just wanted to drop a quick bit of info and testimonial for anyone who was wondering about the Cold Laser I was talking about in my last post. If you haven’t tried it yet it can sound strange. What is Cold Laser Therapy??? It is a form of low intensity laser or light treatment. The laser emits low levels of light that penetrate into the tissue but not so much as to heat or damage the skin or tissue (think of laser hair removal). This stimulates the body’s he...aling response. It helps to increase circulation, decrease inflammation, decreases bruising, decreases pain and promotes tissue regeneration. It’s painless and has relatively few side effects. Cold Laser Therapy is helpful for a number of injuries and conditions like: Sprains and strains Muscle spasm Repetitive strain injuries like carpal tunnel or tendinitis Rheumatoid arthritis Fibromyalgia Stubborn chronic inflammation Post surgical/wound healing Personally I’ve been using it post operation and I’ve noticed a marked decrease in the swelling in my abdomen and the bruising around my sutures is fading rapidly from black and purple to yellow. And I feel like I am recovering quicker and moving better each day. If you have any questions about cold laser feel free to ask or call the office and our lovely receptionists will help you out! Enjoy your weekend!

Surgery was a success. I want to thank all of you for your support and patience. I’ve stopped by the office to get some cold laser treatment to help reduce inflammation, pain and speed up my tissue healing. I’ll be back on Monday March 9th. And thank you to everyone who reached out. I have the best patients. I appreciate each and every one of you.

Amie Leonard, RMT 13.06.2020

To my patients please drive safe and give yourself lots of extra time to get where you’re going. With the road conditions and snow we have decided to waive missed appointment fee’s until the driving conditions improve. If you don’t feel safe driving please don’t feel obliged to come in we will reschedule.

Self care...there’s a lot of buzz around this phrase lately. It conjures up indulgent images of bath-bombs, spa treatments and brunches. Self care doesn’t have to be something you buy in a store, it is a consistent commitment to yourself. It can be as easy making a daily or weekly ritual to take care of yourself. Gratitude journals, yoga or exercise or even just putting your phone down and being present. Self care is important to foster an environment for your mental and physical health. Take a pause today for yourself.
