Ammena Dance Company 07.11.2020

Hello my community, I grew up in Lethbridge dancing with Joliffe Academy and the owner would put on these big shows at the Yates each year. It was sooo exciting and inspired many of us to venture out of Lethbridge to live our dream of becoming professional dancers. Dancing has taken me around the world and when my professional career came to an end, I decided to return to Lethbridge and start up Ammena Dance Company. My dream was to give the community what Joliffe Academy had... given to all of us. I wanted to build a community of dancers where anyone regardless of dance experience, age, gender, race, or size would be welcomed and loved for who they are. I wanted it to be about inclusivity and helping people believe in themselves and build on their strengths. Dance is a magical thing it unites us, heals us and gives us a mental strength to continue through anything. Unfortunately, Ammena Dance Company is among the businesses that COVID has hit the hardest and I am struggling to keep the doors open. I have worked so hard to make this business succeed and every moment has been worth it. I am not ready for our little dance studio in the downtown to be gone forever. Last week I announced in classes that I was going to have to close the studio by March. A few of my students stepped up to help me brainstorm ways to try and stop this from happening. In our brainstorming it became clear that we need help from our community. One of the ways is through this GoFundMe that was started. I am so grateful for all of the support and how quickly people have donated. It is truly amazing and I am at a loss of words for how loved and appreciated I feel. This studio means so much to all of us. Ammena in Arabic means to give something that you consider precious to someone else knowing that they will take good care of it and return it to you in even better condition. There is no truer sense of that word than what this dance community is doing right now. Please help save Ammena Dance Company by sending in a testimonial or if possible a donation. It doesn’t have to be big, every penny counts to help keep us open. Let’s work together to ensure we can continue to dance together and put on wonderful productions at the Yates. Thank you all for your support over the years of being one of my students or a supporter of our shows. Sending so much love to our community. Stay safe and strong Love Lise

Have you checked out our upcoming workshop? Another way to support is by taking classes! This is a fun way to stay active and get out of the house during the holidays! Note: in response to the pandemic, we have made sure to that the studio follows strict government protocols in order to ensure everyone's safety. If workshops cannot be done in person, we will proceed with the workshop over Zoom. If you have any questions about this do not hesitate to message us.
