*pictures are posted with homeowner’s permission This particular house needed a few repairs done, but this was one of the more urgent ones. Water had made its way onto the bare roof deck because there was nothing diverting it into the trough below (ie: sealant, Ice & Water Shield or SBS Deckbase) and felt paper wasn’t enough by itself. ... The damaged section was removed and replaced. I always change out 2 truss-lengths (18 or 24 centres) when it comes to OSB as it’s stronger than just 1 truss length, even with clips. IKO Protecto Ice & Water Shield was installed with extra pieces being layered and tucked in tight at that corner (better to err on the side of overdoing it), then a layer of Rhino Roof underlayment and then sealant at that corner between the wall flashing and the shingle underneath it. Finally a length of downpipe was added to divert all the water from the upper slopes directly into the garage eavestrough. Years ago, the guy who trained me always said, think like water ... and then do what you gotta do to steer it where you want it to go. It’s a principle I’ve learned to apply whether installing a full roof or repairing just a section.

*pictures are posted with homeowner’s permission It’s been a busy couple of months since the last time content was posted. This repair was completed back in May. Homeowner was notified by his neighbor of metal flapping in the wind. As it turns out, they had hired a guy to install what clearly is *not* drip edge, along all the bottom edges of his roof. It wasn’t even secured properly. This was all removed and proper drip edge was installed and secured with self-sealing roofing... screws. Homeowner also noticed a line of capping that was flapping in the wind as well. Sometimes all it takes is a strong enough gust at just the right angle and capping comes loose and even blown right off the roof. Wind-damaged capping was replaced, along with a bead of sealant to help the existing capping seal properly to the new stuff. Lastly, the homeowner’s dryer vent needed to be replaced. Lint would have built up again due to the gooseneck’s screen, so a Primex gooseneck vent was installed and properly waterproofed.

*pictures are posted with homeowner’s permission* Repair & TuneUp: Homeowner’s neighbor gave him a few capping pieces that was thought to be from his roof. Upon inspection, it was discovered that more capping was missing than initially thought - homeowner had no real line of sight due to 4/12 pitched roof and no back alley. New capping pieces were installed, with a bead of caulking to help the existing capping seal properly to the new. And a bead of caulking was applied at the transition as an added waterproofing measure. A General Roof TuneUp was also completed, with pictures and report emailed to them for their record. Homeowner is grateful for conscientious and thoughtful neighbors. I know I would be as well!
