The AMS stands in solidarity with the SUOs calls for action. We are horrified to learn about the incident of police brutality that occurred to a UBC Okanagan student during a wellness check. We must call for accountability for the officer involved, as well as address the systemic issues within policing. UBC must take action and review its relationship with the RCMP, crisis protocol, and create support resources for students in crisis. We must stand by and support UBC students when they are facing mental health challenges, and condemn police brutality.
Great News. The AMS Food Bank is now open twice a week to support students facing food insecurity
The AMS is aware of a report regarding an incident of racial profiling that occurred on June 8th at the UBC Vancouver campus. We call upon the University to conduct a fair, independent, and transparent investigation into this incident. The AMS highlights the recent pattern of racism occurring on campus, and we expect that the University will take a zero-tolerance approach with this incident and act to deconstruct systemic racism on campus. We must always be working to decons...truct these systemic patterns of racialized discrimination and anti-Black racism. Read our full statement here: https://www.ams.ubc.ca//statement-regarding-report-of-ant/ You can also read more about the incident here: https://www.facebook.com/SJI.GSA/posts/254009579380189
