Current studio worktable. Image one show separate bodies of workplants on the wall are Cultivars from a collaboration with @popsymag, the blue at the end are cyanotypes from my Learnscape series and the pink textile seeping everywhere is a work in progress. Out of view is my ever-present laptop. I spend a lot of time experimenting and playing with materials in my studio (as in image 2) taking photos and rearranging elements. Sometimes work looks like hands on making, and ot...her times it looks like reading, researching, thinking, or playing. Sometimes it’s writing, teaching or studio visits with other artists or curators. I find working across a few projects at once, taking time to go back and forth to revisit each idea, keeps me excited and engaged in what I’m doing. Sometimes Bana (see image 3) helps me out. I’m an artist and this is how I #makeartwork. If you are also an artist, today is the last day to enter @createdheremag ‘s contest to win a free subscription! Check out their stories for a how-to! One of my greatest privileges &pleasures this year has been working with an amazing group of artists, writers, and thinkers, to publish a book! Harbour: A Compendium follows tangents of thought ,rooted in memory, which begin at the harbour or with the act of harbouring. Stories and memories are changeable like the shore being built and rebuilt by the tides. Each contribution speaks to the human experience of inhabiting a coastal area and being inhabited by things we cannot l...et go. Together, the artists, writers, and thinkers featured in this book build a collective voice through the etymology of the commonly used maritime descriptor for our locale: Harbour. Harbour is finally for sale on my websitelink in bio! The Harbour project stands in solidarity with, and support of, Mi’kmaq Fisheries in Nova Scotia: All profits from Harbour: A Compendium, purchased through my website, will go directly to Sipekne’katik Moderate Livelihood Fisheries. There is no place for racism, intimidation, or violence on our harbours. We are all treaty people and rights are not optional. To give more, send e-transfers to: [email protected] for the fishing fund. [email protected] to support the frontline at the wharf. Publication Details: Soft cover, 144 page, full colour. First Edition published in 2020 by Amy Ash Art & Engagement, with layout and design by KC Wilcox. Printed in Canada by Rapido Books. Artwork on cover by Chantal Khoury. Foreword by Kate Wallace. Harbour: A Compendium was published in conjunction with the group exhibition, HARBOUR (Saint John Arts Centre 2019, Beaverbrook Art Gallery 2020), and was made possible through the generous support of ArtsNB the Sheila Hugh Mackay Foundation. Their generosity ensured each contributor was fairly paid in the making of this book. Much gratitude. #alleyesonmikmaki #harbour #books #compendium
