Watch for cavities in your little ones teeth. It isn't just the obvious culprits that cause cavities, like pop and candy, but crackers can be bad too as they stick to the teeth. Hint: Get your child to rinse out their mouth after snack time.

We use essential oils for those who prefer a more natural treatment for teeth. We understand that some don't like the idea of flouride and we will work with you (the patient) to find the best course of treatment for you! Message us for more information about our use of essential oils!

Happy Canada Day! Sending LOVE to everyone today. A day for all Canadians to celebrate, reflect, and maybe more than most years, ponder what Canada we want to leave for future generations. With an appreciation of all the many countries of the world who are represented here, I am happy I call Canada home.

Unfortunately, when we can finally go back to having routine Preventive Dental Hygiene Care, we may hear that we have more problem areas in our mouth when we return. What can you do at home to make sure you are controlling cavities and gingivitis? GINGIVITIS - Hydrogen Peroxide has been used before and we are recommending it's use once again. Mixed half water, half hydrogen peroxide right before swishing for minimum 30 seconds. Bubbles will form near the gums and on the tong...ue where bacteria and viruses hide. This is now the recommended pre-rinse before dental treatment as it the only known ingredient to kill coronavirus. CAVITIES - start using xylitol! This is a natural sugar found in many food and health products. Cavity bacteria love this sugar but it does a number on their tummies! Mints, candy, gum, and toothpastes are still on sale and available for PORCH PICK-UP in SMITHVILLE! Check out some of the options at AmyDionRDH.com and start reducing cavity bacteria today! (8-12 grams per day for adults is recommended to have an effect). Can't wait to see you all again! See more

Well, it may not have hit you yet but the fact is, we might have to wait a while until our next dental visits. What can you do to reduce the amount of calculus and plaque building on your teeth and reduce your risk of cavities? Follow my page for some great tips and tricks! The first question I'm often asked is, should I purchase an electric toothbrush? Will it really work better? Well, if you seem to get a lot of calculus or thick sticky plaque, or if you tend to have spot...s that bleed, you could see a major improvement! If you have a great technique with a regular brush and your dental visits go pretty easily you may not notice a huge difference. If you tend to brush too hard and have exposed roots you will have to be careful with an electric brush and let it do the work! Whether an electric or regular brush, try holding it with your finger tips instead of in your fist. Rest your brush on the teeth instead of pressing against them. Slowly move your electric brush from tooth to tooth. For a manual brush, make small strokes back and forth only over a few teeth, working the bristles in between like a gentle massage. When you press your brush the bristles can't get between and you can start to expose or even brush into the root areas of teeth. These can be sensitive and may even need to be filled. A favorite analogy I use is that your teeth are like cleaning a non-stick pan. You can scrub, or take the steel wool to it to get rid of those baked on pieces, but you will ruin your pan! The same goes for teeth - slow and steady wins the race. What brush to buy? If you have never used an electric brush and not sure if you will like it, try to stick with something under $50. Some people do not like or CAN'T STAND the vibration! More expensive brushes come with more tech - timer, different settings, an app for your phone. But they are not needed for a good brushing experience! Have a dental question you'd like answered? Send it in! Stay safe and keep that smile healthy! https://youtu.be/SBETJnUwwwc See more
