Q: Which should I do first, cardio or weights? A: As with almost everything fitness related, the answer depends on your goals! However, for the MOST part, people will get added benefits if they put strength training first.... Here are two reasons why: You’ll be stronger and less fatigued when you do weight training first, which can improve your workout performance. This could also help you avoid injury related to being pre-fatigued before you start your workout! Doing cardio last has an added benefit. A study done by the American Council on Exercise found that when people did cardio after strength, their heart rates were higher than they were when they did cardio first. That means they didn’t have to work out extra hard to get their heart rates up into their cardio training zone. PLUS: Because the body uses up stored carbs as fuel for the strength workout, there’s a slight boost in the amount of fat burned during the cardio session. BONUS: do both at the same time! Using a system called Metabolic Conditioning you can add short yet intense cardio bursts mixed in your strength training workout to boost your metabolism. The health benefits are numerous (studies show peripheral heart training helps lower HBP) and it’s a fun way to train. I suggest not all of your strength training session are this style, but once or twice a week added in works best. Which do YOU do first!? What a great day to take your workout outside! Ran my fave derby beach trail, a little mucky but so warm and pleasant out right now. I my barefoot style Xero runners. I have two pairs of Prio and my new pair of Terraflex which have a bit grip for muddy trails. Could really feel the difference in grip, loved it. Yippee! My two hand made Wreath and Robe sweaters came! I was looking for athletic wear that was a bit unique and found @wreathandrobe and fell in love with their line. I got the Cuisinart Digital AirFryer Toaster Oven. Yay! Really excited about it! I have heard so many good thing about air frying. I have no idea where to start. The manual has a few easy recipes. What you are doing for fun? Doesn’t it feel like everything has been SO SERIOUS for way too long!? Here’s something I am doing to inject some FUN into my life!... I do find barre and Pilates to be extremely fun!! Especially when great music is playing. I also LOVE hanging out with my friends. I know we can’t right now so I’m trying to schedule more Zoom time with them and we even playing board games together. I also enjoy playing board games with my kids and husbie (those are in person thankfully!) It’s not just fun, but it’s a mental break because it’s COMPLETELY DIFFERENT than what I normally do which is EXCITING! But that’s not the point of it. The point is simply this: FUN!
